My name is Kai Fujisawa, and I'm in charge of public relations and recruitment, and I'm addicted to standing desks.
Nowadays, remote work has become a habit, and the 31st Beyond Study Group held a LT competition with the theme, "Let's show off our remote work environment!"
Title : “Home de LT Tournament ~Those who have mastered the remote work environment~”
In April 2020, we held an LT competition with the theme of remote work, and after a year, the desk environment has probably been set up, so we decided to improve remote work by improving the desk, chair, camera, lighting, mind-related items, etc. Six students who have improved well performed LT.
There are 6 speakers here.
- Beyond Co., Ltd. Yoichi Bandai
- Michitaro Nakajima, Yahoo Japan Corporation
- mochikoAsTech
- Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. Odasho (Shohei Oda)
- Beyond Co., Ltd. Yosuke Goto
- shibomb Hiroki Shibahara
Until I had a work room where my wife would say, ``You've been having a hard time leaving your room lately.''
The top batter will be Bandyo from Beyond's System Development Department.
At first I was using a round chair, but I gave up my seat and replaced it with AKReacing, and I also built my own cardboard PC stand, which is said to be the best (?) PC stand in the world. Several upcoming items were introduced.
What particularly caught my attention was this "cactus that absorbs electromagnetic waves"
I wanted a little bit of it, so I searched for "electromagnetic wave cactus" on Amazon, but it turned out that it was out of stock, so I decided to continue working while being exposed to electromagnetic waves for a while.
Electromagnetic Cactus Cereus Belvianus
Now throw away the chair! - How to start standing work
The second person was Michitaro Nakajima from Yahoo Japan Corporation.
Mr. Michitaro, who also runs Mixleap, has relatively little experience with remote work because his office is too comfortable, so we asked him to talk about the standing desk system
Apparently, ``the brain and body need to get tired at the same time,'' and if you work while sitting, only your head gets tired.
Mr. Michitaro, who started working standing up for health reasons, was worried about the stares of those around him when he worked sitting down, but he stuck to his belief that ``people will someday stand up.'' He talked about the importance of working on your work without worrying about what others think of you.
surely! Inspired by this, I tried my hand at an improvised standing desk the next day and worked on a pile of cardboard boxes, but somehow I felt like my mind was faster when I worked standing up.
Best of all, it gives you just the right amount of fatigue, so if you're tired of sitting and working, please give it a try.
Rather than “Let’s do this when the situation calms down,” let’s make the present more comfortable.
The third person is mochikoAsTech. (I called her Mochiko-san)
Mochiko has written numerous technical books, and one of the infrastructure engineers in our company was a fan of her, so we asked her to speak on stage, and she gladly accepted.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, if you stop thinking ``I'll buy that thing when the situation calms down'' or ``I'll just put up with it for now,'' and focus on the present and organize your desk environment, your work efficiency will improve and small stresses will disappear quickly. All the speakers were deeply in agreement with Ms. Mochiko's wonderful idea that it would be better to resolve the issue.
Among the things you bought, Mochiko, how many did you mention about the convenience of having an "Ethernet hub"? When I asked that question, I was surprised to hear that he said about 7 pieces
After all, people who have a perfect desk environment will try out various products until they find a good product, and if they find a good product, they will buy multiple products.
A story about living inside a home-built PC
The fourth person is Odasho (Shohei Oda) from Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd.
Mr. Odasho, who loves gadgets, is also very proud of his home-built PC.
It was fully equipped with an actress light, and I was anxious to buy one soon.
And the meaning of the title ``Living inside a homemade PC'' is ``I made the lights in my house shine like a homemade PC'' , so I played around with the light bulbs in different colors, but even when I was sleeping I could use the motion sensor. It is said that he had a reaction to this, and just by turning over, the room lit up in rainbow colors (lol).
If you love building your own PC, why not try living inside one like Odasho?
The story of buying wood for my house - How to make a house that makes you want to hide in it -
The fifth speaker was Goto from Beyond's Web Services Division.
A story about the importance of ``interior greenery and indirect lighting'' if you want to make your room stylish to make working from home more comfortable
Goto, who has experience as a photographer, is also very particular about lighting, and gave a lecture on how to create sunlight filtering through foliage and introduced recommended plants.
This type of effect is possible with just a large plant and indirect lighting.
There are rainbow-colored rooms like Odasho-san, the previous LT, and rooms that have a jungle feel like Goto. I wonder if the spaces created by each person are so different! It was interesting.
Equipment to look good, improving work efficiency that can be done from home, and corruption is also a problem.
The final story is from Hiroki Shibahara.
Mr. Shibahara, who works as a freelance engineer, uses his desk at home instead of the office as his work environment.
In addition to installing high-quality cameras, green screens, and standing desks, they have also installed a combination of cushions and desks that can make people sick I was quite envious of being able to work while sleeping.
In addition, the list of things Mr. Shibahara has purchased since the coronavirus pandemic has been published on the website, so I would like to improve my desk environment! If you think so, please check it out.

Beyond study sessions are held regularly online
The Beyond Study Group is a study group that specializes in technical topics such as infrastructure and development, but we also occasionally hold sessions on non-technical topics.
We are planning to hold a development event in April, so whether you are an engineer or not, please feel free to join us!
As mentioned above, Fujisawa is addicted to standing desks, but I find it tiring to stand up and write my blog, so I ended up sitting down instead.
