Winter News from Toronto: Entry into the Country (How to Get to Toronto and Things to Know!)
It can be daunting to fly alone to North America and not be good at English.
So, this time, I'll introduce my experience of traveling to Toronto and some things to be aware of, for beginners who don't know left from right.
My name
is Sumi (Samurai style) from the System Solutions Department.
I am currently on a business trip to Toronto
from October 28th, 2023, Kawa This time, I would like to provide a detailed introduction to the process of entering Canada, something that not many people have mentioned before.
Travel
*This article covers travel from Kansai International Airport to Vancouver to Toronto on Air Canada.
Transfer to Kansai International Airport
By this point in my trip, the flight delay had already been confirmed, and I realized that I would not make it in time for my transit in Vancouver

Check in your luggage and get your ticket
- If you are in transit, it is best to ask the counter staff if you need to collect your luggage in Vancouver at this time
- If you have any questions, now is the time to ask an Air Canada staff member.
*When I told them that I would miss my transit flight due to the delay, they told me that the transit flight would be automatically switched to a new flight on the Air Canada app.

If you arrive early, you can have a light meal and buy souvenirs before going through the security gate
There is also a shop inside after passing through the security gate
Go through the security gate
If you are wearing boots that cover your ankles, you will need to place them on a tray.
Once you go through, you will not be able to come out, so you should finish all your outside business before proceeding to the security gate.
Take the Wing Shuttle for transportation within the airport
Wing Shuttle operates many flights, so even if you miss a flight, there will be another one soon after, so there is no need to rush
Boarding
You will enter according to the lane number printed on your ticket. Passengers will be called in order of lowest number
Get on a plane and sleep or watch a movie or play a game
As an aside, there is a video that always plays when you board an airplane...the " in-flight safety video ."
Since Canada uses English and French as its official languages, you might think that there would be two videos in each language, but they are actually all streamed together in one video!
It's a far cry from stuffy videos, so be sure to check it out!

Upon arrival at Vancouver (YVR), the passengers will slowly disembark from the front seats
Basically, just go with the flow. Signs will tell you which way to go, and if you don't understand English, you can read the Chinese.
(The author's English is terrible, but he understands Chinese, so he relied on Chinese to get around.)

Immigration
Use the kiosk (available in Japanese) to fill out the information you will be asked at immigration in advance.
You can also register with ArriveCAN to speed up the process.

After that, there was a face-to-face interview with the examiner in simple English
(I was asked why I came, how long I would be staying, and what I would do on my way back).
Since I only spoke a little English, the immigration officer used Google Translate to help me. I had some trouble going through immigration, but when he asked me for my return ticket, I showed him my return itinerary on the Air Canada app and he let me through
Go through the security gate
- It is safer to place all electronic devices such as laptops and tablets, as well as metal objects, on a tray
- By the way, the author reacted to the metal part of the belt he was wearing around his waist (though he simply removed it and went through it again)

Proceed to the transit boarding gate
At this point, you will be boarding a different flight than planned, so the paper ticket you received at Kansai International Airport will not be valid (so make sure you don't throw it away!).
Therefore, you will need to show the boarding QR code on the Air Canada app or ask for it on the spot.

Relaxing on the plane
Compared to international flights, the cabin is often smaller and it can be difficult to get to the toilet, so we recommend using it in advance
Arriving in Toronto (YYZ)
Due to delays, we arrived in Toronto at 11:58pm...
Follow the flow, pick up your luggage and go outside (if you're unlucky, you'll have to wait quite a while for your luggage to come out)

Exit the airport
Just follow the arrows. Once you leave, you can't go back, so be careful not to leave anything behind
Enjoy your stay in Toronto!
That concludes my trip from Kansai International Airport to Toronto via Vancouver Airport!
I hope this article will be helpful for those who are not good at English or are afraid of traveling abroad alone when planning their trip to North America.
