Winter Toronto Newsletter Immigration Edition⛄ (Introducing how to get to Toronto and things to note!)
It can be daunting to board a plane alone and head to North America, especially if you're not fluent in English.
So this time, for beginners who don't know left from right, I'd like to introduce my experience of traveling to Toronto and things to keep in mind.
Good mood (Otome manga style)
My name is Sumi from the System Solutions Department (Samurai style)
I am on a business trip to Toronto, replacing
the previous Toronto Newsletter author Kawa This time, I would like to introduce in detail the steps up to entering Canada, which few people have mentioned.
Travel
*This article is about traveling from Kansai International Airport to Vancouver to Toronto with Air Canada.
Move to Kansai International Airport
By the way, the flight delay had already been confirmed for this trip. As a result, it was discovered that I would not be able to make my transit in Vancouver.
Check in your luggage and get your ticket
- If you are transiting, it is safer to ask the person at the counter if you need to pick up your luggage once in Vancouver.
- If you have any questions, please ask an Air Canada staff member at this time.
*When I informed them that I would not be able to make the transit in time, I was informed that the Air Canada app would automatically switch my transit flight to a new flight.
If you arrive early, have a light meal and purchase some souvenirs before passing through the security gate.
There is also a shop inside after passing through the security gate.
pass through the security gate
If you are wearing boots that cover your ankles, you will need to place them on a tray.
Once you pass through, you will not be able to come out, so finish all your business outside before moving to the security gate.
Take the wing shuttle for transportation within the airport
The Wing Shuttle runs frequently, so even if you miss your flight, there's no need to rush as the next flight will arrive soon.
Boarding
You will enter in each lane written on your ticket. They are called in ascending order of number.
Get on a plane, sleep, watch a movie, or play a game
As a side note, there is a video that always plays when you board an airplane... " In-Flight Safety Video "
In Canada, the official languages are English and French, so you would think that the videos for each language would be played twice, but instead they were all combined into one video!
It also stands out from the formal videos, so please take a look!
When I arrived at Vancouver (YVR), I slowly got out of the seat in front of me.
Basically, it moves along with the flow. A signboard will tell you which way to go, and if you don't understand English, you can read it in Chinese.
(The author understands Chinese instead of English, so he relied on Chinese to get around.)
Immigration inspection
Use a kiosk (Japanese is the language) and enter the questions asked at immigration in advance.
By registering with ArriveCAN, you can complete the process quickly.

After that, there will be a simple face-to-face examination with the examiner in English.
(I was asked what I came for, how long I was going to stay, and what I was going to do when I got home.)
Since my English was very poor, the immigration officer used Google Translate to communicate with me. I had some trouble at immigration, but when I was asked for a return ticket, I showed them my return itinerary on the Air Canada app and they let me through.
pass through the security gate
- It is safer to keep all electronic devices such as laptops and tablets, as well as metal objects, on the tray.
- By the way, the author reacted with the metal fittings of the belt around his waist. (Although you can just remove it and go through it again.)

Move to the transit boarding gate
At this time, I will be taking a different flight than the one I had scheduled, so I cannot use the paper ticket I received at Kansai International Airport. (Keep it, just in case!)
So show the boarding QR code in the Air Canada app or ask for it on the spot.
relax on the plane
It is often smaller than on international flights, and it can be difficult to go to the toilet, so we recommend doing so in advance.
Arrive in Toronto (YYZ)
Due to the delay, we arrived in Toronto at 23:58 at night....
Follow the flow, pick up your luggage, and head outside (if the timing is bad, you may end up waiting a long time for your luggage to come out).
leave the airport
Just walk along the arrow. Once you leave, you will not be able to return, so please be careful not to forget anything.
Look forward to your stay in Toronto!
