Winter News from Toronto: Entry into the Country (How to Get to Toronto and Things to Know!)
Flying alone to North America, especially if you're not fluent in English, can be daunting.
So, this time, I'll share my experience traveling to Toronto and some important points to keep in mind, perfect for beginners who are completely unfamiliar with the area.
Greetings (in a shojo manga style)
, I am Sumi from the Systems Solutions Department (in a samurai style)
Since October 28th, 2023,KawaI have been on a business trip to Toronto, taking over from
This time, I would like to give you a detailed account of the process of entering Canada, something that not many people have touched upon.
Travel Information
: This article describes travel from Kansai International Airport to Vancouver and then to Toronto via Air Canada.
Transfer to Kansai International Airport
By this point in my trip, the flight delay had already been confirmed, and I realized that I would not make it in time for my transit in Vancouver

Check in your luggage and get your ticket
- If you are in transit, it is best to ask the counter staff if you need to collect your luggage in Vancouver at this time
- If you have any questions, ask the Air Canada staff member (female or male) at this time.
*When I mentioned that I would miss my connecting flight due to a delay, I was told at this point that the connecting flight would be automatically switched to a new flight on the Air Canada app.

If you arrive early, you can have a light meal and buy souvenirs before going through the security gate
There is also a shop inside after passing through the security gate
Go through the security gate
If you are wearing boots that cover your ankles, you will need to place them on a tray.
Once you pass through, you cannot come out, so please finish all your errands outside before moving to the security gate.
which is used for transportation within the airportthe Wing ShuttleTake
Wing Shuttle operates many flights, so even if you miss a flight, there will be another one soon after, so there is no need to rush
Boarding
You will enter according to the lane number printed on your ticket. Passengers will be called in order of lowest number
Get on a plane and sleep or watch a movie or play a game
As a side note, the video that is always shown when you board an airplane...the "in-flight safety video"
Since Canada uses English and French as its official languages, you might think that there would be two videos in each language, but they are actually all streamed together in one video!
It's a far cry from stuffy videos, so be sure to check it out!

Upon arrival at Vancouver (YVR), the passengers will slowly disembark from the front seats
Basically, just follow the flow of people. Signs indicate which way to go; if you don't understand English, you can also read the Chinese signs.
(The author, who is completely hopeless at English but understands Chinese, relied on Chinese to navigate.)

Immigration
Use the kiosk (which offers Japanese as a language option) to pre-fill in the information you will be asked at immigration.
Registering with ArriveCAN will allow you to complete the process more quickly.

After that, there's a brief face-to-face interview in English with the immigration officer.
(They asked me why I was there, how long I would be staying, and how I would be getting back.)
Since I only spoke a little English, the immigration officer used Google Translate to help me. I had some trouble going through immigration, but when he asked me for my return ticket, I showed him my return itinerary on the Air Canada app and he let me through
Go through the security gate
- It is safer to place all electronic devices such as laptops and tablets, as well as metal objects, on a tray
- By the way, the author reacted to the metal part of the belt he was wearing around his waist (though he simply removed it and went through it again)

Proceed to the transit boarding gate
At this point, you will be taking a different flight than the one you originally scheduled, so the paper ticket you received at Kansai International Airport cannot be used. (Keep it just in case!) Therefore
, show the boarding QR code on the Air Canada app or ask at the counter.

Relaxing on the plane
Compared to international flights, the cabin is often smaller and it can be difficult to get to the toilet, so we recommend using it in advance
Arriving in Toronto (YYZ)
Due to delays, we arrived in Toronto at 11:58pm...
Follow the flow, pick up your luggage and go outside (if you're unlucky, you'll have to wait quite a while for your luggage to come out)

Exit the airport
Just follow the arrows. Once you leave, you can't go back, so be careful not to leave anything behind
Enjoy your stay in Toronto!
That concludes my account of traveling from Kansai International Airport to Toronto via Vancouver Airport!
I hope this will be helpful for those who are not confident in their English skills or are afraid to travel abroad alone and are planning a trip to North America.
