As you know, in order for foreigners to work in China, they must have both a "work permit" and a "residence permit."

This article will introduce you to the process of applying for a postponement of your "work permit" and "residence permit" if they are about to expire.

Step 1: Submit an application for postponement online

, log in to the platform called Foreign Clothes Pingtai as a "单位经办人" (worker)

In order to proceed with the process smoothly and easily, we recommend Chinese employees.

(If there are no Chinese employees, foreigners can apply to open a whitelist and log in at the citizen-centered counter)

After logging in, click "Work Allowance" > "Work Allowance Postponement" on the left side of the screen.

Click "Jump Guide, Direct Practice".

Check both ``Availability to work in Japan postponed'' and ``Permission to reside in Japan (postponed)'' and click ``Immediate work''.

Now you can apply for the postponement of both the work permit and residence permit. However, please note that if the expiration date of the "work permit" exceeds 90 days, you will not be able to apply for this work.

*As shown in the screen below, if you check "Postponed work permit", you will be shown the option to "Pick up residence permit (postponed)".

Follow the instructions on each page such as "Personal Information" > "Work Information" > "Residence Permit Application Information" > "Education Office" > "Work Office" > "Family Information" > "Additional Information", etc., and enter the necessary content. Fill out and submit.

Generally, you can apply for a postponement for a maximum of one year. When I contacted a government-related agency over the phone, I was told that it is possible to apply for a maximum of two years starting from the third year.

Step ②：Reservation

Within five days of submission, the relevant government agency will conduct an initial review of the application and send the results to the worker's mobile SMS. After the results are approved, you will make a reservation at Foreigner's Service Center

On the platform, click "查询" > "書请业务查询" to display your application history. Select the record of the applicant in question and click "Payment".

Follow the on-screen instructions to reserve a time to complete the procedure on-site.

After submitting your reservation, return to the homepage and click "Cancellation".

On the screen below, select the reservation type as ``Foreign resident in Shenzhen 员预约'', enter the applicant's name and passport number in ``Check method 2'', and click ``Check'' to check the reservation status. Masu.

After confirming that the reservation status is "Successful", click on "Seal Application Form" and download the latest "Foreigner's Confirmation Form" with the reservation number.

In the "Foreigner's Certificate Application Form," a 2-inch (basically 35mm x 48mm) blue background photo of the applicant is pasted in the frame where the ID photo is pasted, so please prepare it in advance.

Then, on the last page of the table, write the applicant's name and phone number, and affix the company seal.

Step ③: Carry out procedures at the local citizen-centered counter

the " Foreigner's Service Pingtai " and the "Foreigner's Confirmation Form" downloaded at the time of reservation, the applicant, together with the worker, Go to the counter of 大厅东厅 and complete the procedures.

Go to "Shenzhen City Administrative Clothes Office" and submit all the application materials prepared at the counter (basically counters 51 to 53), as well as the original copies of your passport and "work permit." If the initial verification of the documents is OK, the application form will be stamped and returned at the same time.

Then, enter the applicant's passport number and mobile phone number into the machine and take the number. The number you took will be displayed on the bulletin board, so look at it and go to the relevant counter (usually counters 55-56) to continue with the procedure.

Please note that the original passport must be temporarily deposited at the counter before a new residence permit is issued, so the applicant will not be able to use the original passport during this period.

It usually takes about two weeks from the date of procedure until a new residence permit is issued.

After completing the procedure, you will receive a piece of paper that looks like a ``notification letter'' with the date by which you will receive your new residence permit. Please keep this as you will use it when obtaining a new residence permit.

Step ④: Go to obtain a new residence permit mainly from citizens

However, even if you go to the citizen center early on the morning of the day to receive your new residence permit, there is a high possibility that you will not be able to receive your new residence permit. When I contacted a government-related agency by phone, they told me that it was possible to pick up the package "after 4:00 p.m. (CST) on the same day and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CST) on the following day."

When you arrive at Civic Center, take a number from the machine and go to the counter, just like when you completed the procedure. Basically, the counter for receiving a new residence permit is "numbers 52-53". (As of January 2025)

Submit a paper such as a notice and pay the fee at the local counter. You can then obtain a new residence permit (affixed to a page inside your passport).

The new residence permit page is affixed to your passport, so if there is no problem with the expiry date, it is OK.

Also, scan the QR code written on your work permit using WeChat. Once the expiration date is updated, you are done.
