Beyond Inc. implemented "Danshari Month" in December 2022, and engaged in activities to eliminate waste, such as disposing of unnecessary equipment, saving electricity in the office, and reducing consumables. By shortening the length and frequency of meetings, the company has succeeded in "saving 1,612 hours per year" and "reducing costs by 900,000 yen per year" by scaling back over-spec services

The purpose of "Danshari Month"

At Beyond, we have implemented a "Danshari" (Decluttering) month to reduce waste and create a smarter work environment. The goals are as follows:

・1. Rethinking the time and things we use every day can reduce costs and time, thereby increasing productivity within the company.
・2. Cleaning up the office by cleaning and discarding unnecessary items.
・3. Accepting a little patience by reducing the ordering of consumable goods and the use of electricity.

Implementation details

○ Cost reduction

The company reduced usage fees by eliminating and scaling down cloud services used within the company. In addition, by focusing on small cost savings such as canceling company mobile phones that were not used frequently and making sure to turn off office monitors when leaving work, the company reduced costs by 900,000 yen per year

○ Reduce meeting time

Reduced lengthy internal meetings. By changing weekly meetings to every other week and shortening one-hour meetings to 45 minutes, we were able to reduce the time spent on these meetings by 1,612 hours per year

○ Unnecessary files/data organization

Improve work efficiency by selecting and discarding information, such as organizing data on internal shared drives, reducing data by deleting previously attached data (such as videos) on internal chat tools, and stopping the delivery of unnecessary emails

Danshari Month is also an effort to achieve three of the 17 goals of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): "3. Good health and well-being for all," "7. Affordable and clean energy," and "8. Decent work and economic growth."
