Beyond Co., Ltd. will transfer nighttime server operation, maintenance, and monitoring to Canada from October 2021. In line with this, we will waive any additional costs associated with late-night work. By making it easier for customers to use 24/7 server support than ever before, we will protect our services from various threats and improve the way our engineers work.
Background to free late-night work fees
Servers, which form the infrastructure of IT services, are constantly exposed to various threats such as sudden access loads and unauthorized access from overseas.
With the catchphrase "We leave everything to the server," we have been providing server operation, maintenance, and monitoring 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.We have engineers working even late at night to ensure that our customers' important services run nonstop. We have a system in place that allows for manned monitoring. However, if we request work to be done at night (9:00 pm to 10:00 am the next day) due to the customer's convenience, we would have to arrange for a separate engineer, which would incur additional costs.
In order to eliminate night shift work, we established a new base in Mississauga, Canada, and by taking advantage of the time difference, we were able to handle server operation, maintenance, and monitoring during the day in both Japan and Canada. This eliminates the need to arrange for engineers to work at night when requesting work, so we have decided to waive the additional cost. We believe that it will be easier for more customers to take advantage of 24/7 server support in the future.
The ever-increasing importance of security measures
With the recommendation of telework to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, corporate security measures are becoming more important than ever. Amid threats such as malicious access and information leaks, continuing to protect services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year helps prevent opportunity loss.
We also believe that by reducing the amount of work that our customers do at night, they can focus on developing their core business, which will lead to the creation of better services in the world.
Enhancing work-life balance for engineers by abolishing night shifts
By eliminating night shifts in Japan, we have not only reduced costs for our customers, but also reduced the burden on engineers who previously had to respond to problems at night. By changing from the previous three domestic shifts to two domestic shifts, we will solve problems such as disrupted daily rhythms and difficulty securing private life, and create a more comfortable working environment.
In the future, we will also develop services originating from Canada.
Currently, our Canadian office focuses on cloud/server operation and maintenance, while also supporting local AI startup companies' expansion into Asia. In addition, we are considering collaborating with our group company ``Kids Programming School 8×9 (Hack)'' to develop a school business that provides programming instruction to children living in Canada.
