Infrastructure engineers participated in Google Cloud Next

This is Nakagawa from the System Solutions Department.

recently participated in Google Cloud Next '19 in Tokyo

About Google Cloud Next

This is an event where you can learn GCP expertise and learn about the latest technology.

The outline is as follows.

The Next '19 program is designed to help participants deepen their knowledge, gain valuable information, and accelerate their business and personal skills development. Expand your technical expertise in AI, developer tools, security, and more while experiencing the latest Google Cloud products through hands-on demos, case studies, and in-depth sessions.

Exhibition status

Beyond also had a company booth.

This is how we are preparing to exhibit.

Installation completed. We also have a variety of novelty items available.

We are showing a demo video of
the new service " Appmill for APP I feel that many people were more interested in the Black Knight being monitored than in the new service itself

session

In between booth exhibits, I participated in sessions that I was interested in.

7/31
13:20~14:00

"Building a real-time dashboard of viewing data using BigQuery"

14:40~15:20

"Asahi Breweries' Challenge: Aim for adopting Google Kubernetes Engine and migration method"

8/1
13:20~14:00

“Escape from midnight releases! Automated GKE deployment operations and performance monitoring!”

14:20~15:20

"Introduction to Site Reliability Engineering"

16:00~16:40

“Lift & Shift to GCP ~ Efficient migration and optimization using migration tools ~”

Particularly interesting was `` Introduction to Site Reliability Engineering .''
I only had the opportunity to learn the rough definition of SRE from books, blogs, etc.

1. Solution development

2. Philosophy and way of thinking (engineering approach)

3. Engineering practices and tools

I am glad that I was able to participate because I understood the purpose of working on SRE.

Besides the concept of SRE, the slides about emergency response stuck with me the most.

・When dealing with systems, ``things always break''

・Processes are necessary because few people are able to respond well to emergencies.

-Don't panic

You are not alone and it is not the end of the world

As a new graduate, I was nervous every time I had to respond to alerts or troubleshoot problems.
When I thought about how even Google's SRE team members feel this way when dealing with problems,
I realized that it's not good to be too nervous.
However,
I believe that the key to not panicking is having a deep understanding of infrastructure, systems, and services, so I try not to misunderstand what they mean.

It was an opportunity for me to become motivated to learn more
about general IT knowledge and techniques in order to grow as an infrastructure engineer We will work on being able to read and write code in order to automate business and tasks.

In other sessions, we were able to hear directly about companies' GCP implementation cases and the latest technologies.

" Lift & Shift to GCP - Efficient migration and optimization using migration tools ", we heard about migration.
Regarding migration to GCP, which Beyond also sells,
I have tried migrating VMs to GCE using the
third-party product " cloudendure Anthos , it is possible to migrate on-premises or VMs as GKE containers. is.
My understanding has not caught up even after listening to the explanation, so I will try Anthos in my own environment.

Certification benefits

I also took
advantage of benefits for those who have obtained GCP certification Benefits include a private lounge and backpacks limited to 100 each on both days.

It also has a storage pocket for my laptop, and despite its large appearance, it feels light to carry on my back, so
I immediately liked it and started using it for work.
I’m glad I passed the qualification by the next date!

Afterword

It was the first time I participated in a large-scale event after joining the company.

I was nervous to explain our company face-to-face to people who stopped by our booth.

I believe that I was able to confidently communicate what the other party was looking for and what I could provide in response, based on my work experience as an infrastructure engineer and the knowledge I had acquired

In addition,
I was able to hear first-hand lectures from various engineers about new GCP services, examples of how to use existing services, and examples of companies using GCP, which I was very satisfied with.
I'm glad I participated, but it would be a waste to end it, so I will use it as an indicator for skill improvement and in my work.
I'll try Anthos first

I definitely want to participate next time, so I will continue to hone my skills until then.

Thank you for reading this far.
