A story of someone with no industry experience obtaining LPIC-1 certification

Nice to meet you. My name is Shimeji and I joined the System Solutions Department in March
My previous job was in a completely different field...
I'm still learning a lot from everyone at Beyond, even though I'm feeling a bit lost every day.
Now, do you know the operating system called Linux?
Linux is something that you will definitely need to come into contact with if you work with servers
Today I would like to write a report on taking the Linux OS exams LPIC 101 and 102
What I used for learning
- Linux Textbook LPIC Level 1 Version 4.0 Compatible (so-called small book) [4000 yen]
- Linux Textbook: LPIC Level 1 Speed Master Practice Questions Version 4.0 Compatible [2700 yen]
- Ping-t (Learning Site) URL →https://ping-t.com
I mainly used the three methods mentioned above for my studies!
At first, I just read the small book and copied it into my notebook. I
skipped over the parts I didn't understand and kept moving forward.
Next, I went through Speed Master twice, and after that, I just solved problems on Ping-t.
To sum up
- 3 rounds of Azukihon (1 round was copying notes)
- Speedmaster 2 laps
- Ping-t about 6 hours
It will look something like this
My recommendation is to study while doing strength training!
*Two types of books are available for the 101 exam, but for the 102 exam, studying with Ping-t is essential!!
*Ping-t is free for the 101 test range, but there is a fee for the 102 test range
Exam application procedure
To be honest, it's quite a hassle
- URL to obtain your LPI-ID:https://lpicj.org/exam/
- Create a Pearson VUE account
- Book your exam on the Pearson VUE website or by phone
You can apply for the LPIC exam the day before if there is a venue available, but the application process takes quite a bit of time, so we recommend creating an account the day before
Also, for some reason, there seem to be fewer test venues on the last weekend of the month.
Those living in rural areas may find their test dates limited due to the fewer venues available.
Please be careful
Points to note when taking the exam
Please prepare the following before going to the venue:
- Photo ID (driver's license or passport)
- A signed document (such as a credit card or employee ID)
I don't usually use credit cards, so I was quite worried the day before the exam
It seems that passports and health insurance cards can also be used!!!
Please prepare two certificates of each type that meet the above conditions by the day of the event
At the exam venue
Upon arriving at the venue, you'll be asked to sign some suspicious-looking documents, but don't worry about it and just follow the instructions of the staff.
After that, they'll take your photo and give you a locker key.
The number written on this locker seems to indicate the seat where you'll take the test.
I was so nervous my stomach hurt.
My mind was dead from the thought of what would happen if I fell. (laughs)
My whole body was twitching from the tension.
By the way, we were allowed to bring pocket tissues and waterless anti-diarrheal medicine!!
To all the people across the country who have sensitive stomachs and suffer from hay fever, don't worry!!! You can bring it in!!!
Once you take your seat, an attendant will set up your computer for you and then you can start
The result was..
101 Exam (taken on March 18th) 670 points/800 points Passed
102 Exam (taken on 4/1) 600/800 points Pass
I nearly cried with relief
When the exam is over, you will leave with the whiteboard and pen you used as notepad during the exam
After that, you receive the test report, sign some suspicious documents, and that's it!!!
summary
My impression after actually taking the LPIC exam was, "The scope is so broad!"
It was full of things I had to memorize.
In my case, I had previously obtained an IT Passport, so I felt a little more at ease..
I've said this many times before, but I think it's difficult to pass the 102 exam with just the Azuki Book and Speed Master. From
my experience, about 50% of the information is in the book, and the other 50% is from other sources.
I highly recommend that anyone taking the LPIC exam use the Ping-t site!!!
And also strength training
