Introduction
It was my first time to visit Kushimoto/Shiomisaki in Wakayama Prefecture, and I would like to share with you some general characteristics and impressions below. By the way, I drove from Osaka to Kushimoto, and it took about 3 hours one way.
●As it is the southernmost tip of Honshu, there are many spots where you can see the horizon of the Pacific Ocean, offering spectacular views.
● Enjoy the tropical atmosphere while staying in Honshu.
●His temperature is not humid like the temperature in urban areas such as Tokyo and Osaka, but his temperature is dry.
● Since it is quite close to the sea, the wind blows often and the nights are cool.
● The color of the sea is emerald green. (It is home to the northernmost coral in the world.)
● It has a deep history of relations with other countries since the Edo and Meiji periods.
● Fish dishes are fresh and delicious. There are also plenty of fishing spots.
Kushimoto Marine Park
First, I came to Kushimoto Marine Park You can also go diving at the attached `` Kushimoto Diving Park (I wasn't able to dive due to schedule)
I came to the back of the facilities at Kushimoto Marine Park. The tower-like thing in the center of the photo is the "Underwater Observation Tower."
The sign says, ``Kushimoto is home to the world's northernmost coral sea.''
Many coral fossils were washed up on the shore.
It's a little hard to tell in the photo, but the color of the sea was emerald green, due to the coral sea.
Hashikui Rock
Hashigui Rock located at ``Roadside Station ''. Due to sea erosion, only the hard parts of the rock remain, and Hashikui Rock, which looks like the pilings of a bridge, was built a long time ago when Kobo Daishi and an evil demon made a bet that they would build a bridge in one night. There is a legend.
From this point onwards, the weather gradually got better.
The sandy beach is very beautiful. The sun was so strong that I got sunburned just by being outside. The sun was strong, but since the sea was surrounding him, there was a good breeze blowing, and the crisp heat made her feel good.
Tahara Beach
It was very hot that day, so I went swimming at the beach. There was no one else at the beach except me. I got sunburn while swimming.
Shionomisaki
I came to Cape Shiono, the southernmost tip of Honshu. Looking at the stone monument marking the southernmost tip of Honshu and the sea, I realized that I had come a long way. By the way, the latitude is 33 degrees 26 minutes north latitude and 135 degrees 46 minutes east longitude.
It's a prairie.
It's a ship somewhere.
When you look out from land, you can see a 180-degree ocean view. When you look at the horizon of the ocean like this, you can see that the earth is really round.
Kishu Nagisano Station: Water Gate Festival (Meal)
Kishu Nagisano Station: Suimon Matsuri , you can enjoy a seafood bowl filled with freshly caught fish while looking out at the emerald green ocean.
Oshima (Turkish Memorial Museum/Kashinozaki Lighthouse)
Kushimoto Town in Wakayama Prefecture is a town with deep ties to Türkiye.
On September 16, 1890, the Ertugrul carrying the first Turkish (then Ottoman Empire) mission was lost off the coast of our facility (Ferry Reef) while returning home after an audience with the Emperor. At that time, the history of friendship between Turkey and Japan began due to the dedicated rescue efforts of the islanders.
As I walked along the road where the Turkish Memorial Museum was, I came across the Equestrian Statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Mr. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (hereinafter referred to as Mr. Atatürk) is a great hero of the Turkish people who stood up to liberate his homeland, which was divided and occupied after World War I, and led the war to victory as a leader. Mr. Atatürk, as the first president of the country, is still deeply respected by the people as a founding father who carried out reforms in all fields and achieved the modernization of the country.
This equestrian statue was donated to Kushimoto Town by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Japan on the 120th anniversary of the shipwreck of the warship Ertugrul, which laid the foundation for friendship between Japan and Turkey, in hopes of further developing friendship between the two countries. .
As I went further in, I came across the Kashinozaki Lighthouse. Kashinozaki Lighthouse is the first style stone lighthouse in Japan.
On the same site as Kashinozaki Lighthouse, there was "Kashinozaki Lighthouse Former Official Residence".
This official residence, built for the lighthouse keeper's office and residence, was the first in Japan to be completed in 1870 by British engineer Richard Henry Brunton (hereinafter referred to as "Mr. Brunton"). It is a historical stone building. It was built when the Edo shogunate opened the country and the Edo Treaty of 1866 decided to install a lighthouse. Mr. Blanton was chosen as the head of the building, and it was completed as a Western-style stone building.
The construction of this Kashinozaki lighthouse and former official residence was planned in the Edo period and completed in the early Meiji period, which gives a sense of history.
Climb to the roof of Kashinozaki Lighthouse.
This is a photo taken from the roof of Kashinozaki Lighthouse. He has a great view as there is only the ocean. In the olden days, he probably used this lighthouse to send signals to ships coming from Japan and abroad.
Oshima (Japan-US Friendship Memorial Hall/Umi Kongo)
The first American to come to Japan has the image of Commodore Perry, who visited Uraga, present-day Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, in 1853 during the Edo period, seeking to open the country to Japan. However, the first American to come to Kushimoto was in 1791, 62 years before the arrival of the Black Ships.
The Japan-US Friendship Memorial Hall was built to preserve for future generations the fact that two American merchant ships called at Japan and applied for trade to Japan before Commodore Perry's black ships arrived.
We arrived at Umikongo, a rock made from magma that was carved out by the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean. The view from the observation deck of Umikongo is also nice.
Accommodation
We stayed at a hotel called `` Hotel & Resorts Wakayama Kushimoto The view from the hotel was good and the room was very spacious.
This is a photo taken at dawn from my hotel room.
JR Kushimoto Station
I strolled around in front of JR Kushimoto Station.
summary
It was a sightseeing trip to a place I had never been to before, but there were many things I didn't know about, so it was a fresh and good experience. Also, since this trip was for 1 night and 2 days, I wasn't able to visit all the sightseeing spots and leisure activities, but there are still many sightseeing and leisure spots in Kushimoto/Shiomisaki, so I hope I get the chance next time. I would like to go there again.
