[🍁News from Toronto] Language school edition 🏫
table of contents
Hello there! This is Inusuki from the System Solutions Department.
This is the 9th Toronto Newsletter that we have been sending out in relay format (without permission).
This time, I would like to share with you my experience when I was attending a language school while working in Canada!
I'll take it easy.
School introduction
Inusuki attended Hansa Language Center, .
In addition to English, you can take classes in 10 other languages, including French and German, tailored to your language level.
In addition, the class schedule has a certain pattern, but depending on the language you want to take, we offer online classes and night classes, so even busy working adults can take classes.
Inusuki was taking English night classes, so she went to Yonge Campus two days a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Why did you go to a language school?
Reasons for this may include using English in daily work or to broaden one's horizons, but in Inusuki's case, the reason is quite simple.
That because...I was lonely .
Yes, I was lonely. Being alone is lonely.
However, Inusuki's English level is not very high.
Even in the course of work, there aren't many opportunities to talk beyond reading and writing.
However, the hurdles for things like Language Exchange are too high, so to be honest, I wanted to create an opportunity to talk with someone who doesn't speak Japanese but has the same level of English as Inusuki.
Preparation for admission
The documents required for admission are as follows.
- passport
- eTA number
- Overseas insurance policy number
Apart from these, there were also online tests for class placement.
The test is only for reading and writing, so it may not be an accurate evaluation, but if it does not suit your level, you can change classes.
Now, enroll!
Human beings always get nervous when there is a change in the environment.
Moreover, when you are dealing with someone whose first language you cannot communicate with, you have no choice but to use vocabulary, body language, and passion to get through it.
With respect to Zakiyama and Degawa, Inusuki also made up his mind.
~ Skit below ~
Dog “Konichiwar”
Teacher: “Um, what about you?”
Dog: “I’m Inusuki, nice to meet you.”
Teacher: “Ah, Inusuki. Sit wherever you like. So, how are you doing?”
Dog: (while giving thumbs up with both hands) Yes, I feel that way.
Teacher: “Good. Where are you from?”
Dog “Japanese”
There is a dangerous atmosphere in the class.
Teacher: "Hmm, Japan? We don't have any Japanese students. I'm sorry, but could you please leave?"
Dog (Is there such a thing in this day and age...)
Dog: “Gerout? Ok (trying to get up from his seat)”
Teacher: “Hey, wait. I’m just kidding.”
Dog: “Hey men!”
It's passion. (After this, I touched it)
Class situation
The class begins with a small talk, followed by distribution of teaching materials, strengthening vocabulary and listening, and discussion.
It was a series of trials for the shy Inusuki, as her partner changed frequently.
Especially during the discussion, I had a lot of things I wanted to say, but I felt frustrated because I couldn't put them into words...I think I was getting my point across somehow, but I don't think it was enough.
By the way, most of the students in the class were from Europe. (There were people in their 18s to 40s)
Inusuki was always on the lookout for topics such as communicating with students from different countries in class.
Teacher, please moderate. It looks like it's going to peel off.
thoughts
Frankly speaking, since it was practiced within a limited period of time, my English level may not have changed that much.
However, I don't think I'm as good at English as before, and I think I'm more motivated to communicate in English.
In addition, I was able to achieve the purpose of ``creating an opportunity to speak with someone who is at a similar level of English but who does not speak Japanese,'' and it also increased my motivation to learn English.
From now on, don't forget to respect others and say something! Make some move! I will work hard to study the language with this in mind.
If you have even the slightest interest in English, consider attending a language school. I'm sure it will be fun.
That’s it for Inusuki👋
