Hello. I'm Komatsu, also known as Pikoma, from the PR department! (I've changed my nickname.)
These days, I'm feeling happy about the arrival of winter. It's also nice to shiver in the cold

I recently decided to try obtaining a certification again after a long time... so this time I"AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals"exam! After studying hard, I managed to pass, so I'm going to document my study process and how I passed in this blog post.
What is Microsoft Azure Fundamentals?
The Microsoft Azure Fundamentals exam tests your knowledge of Azure's fundamentals and concepts, as well as your understanding of Azure's various service management, security, and cost management.
Question scope
| 1 | Explain cloud concepts | 25-30% |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Describe Azure architecture and services | 35-40% |
| 3 | Describe Azure management and governance | 30-35% |
In addition to basic knowledge of each item, there are also questions on selecting the most appropriate service depending on the situation
The exam is scored out of a possible 1,000 points, and a score of 700 or more is required to pass. Some questions may be given partial credit even if the answer is not perfect
Who is this qualification recommended for? How difficult is it?
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals is an entry-level certification for Azure. It is aimed at those who are new to Microsoft Azure or who want to learn the basics of what Azure can do. It is an introductory qualification for those who are planning to study the cloud or Azure
I had never used Azure before and started from a situation where I didn't really understand the basics. This qualification is aimed at anyone related to the cloud, even if they're not an engineer, as it provides basic knowledge, so it's useful even for people like me who don't have any technical experience

study method
previously obtained my AWS certification (AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner), I set a date to take the exam and studied accordingly. I passed the AWS exam after about two weeks of studying, so I planned for about the same amount of study time this time (at first I thought I had plenty of time, but later I panicked). If you're thinking about taking the exam but keep putting it off for one reason or another, first decide on an exam date, register, and put pressure on yourself! From there, you have no choice but to study (lol).
What I did during this qualification study:
- Repeatedly use Udemy
- Read the text
- Ask an engineer to show you the actual Azure portal screen
① Repeatedly use Udemy
Udemy has a wide variety of textbooks and question sets, but I purchased the course below
It's a set of seven mock exam question books. When I bought it, it cost 1,800 yen (I recommend buying it when it's on sale)
For two weeks, Udemy was my friend on the train to and from work. I would solve problems, read the explanations for the ones I got wrong, and then reread the textbook, repeating the process. Personally, I think it's important to carefully read the explanations in the answers, so I made a conscious effort to understand the explanations
②Read the text
I purchased the following on my Kindle:
Microsoft Certification Exam Text AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
At first, I felt comfortable just solving the problems, but I suddenly started to feel anxious, so I bought a textbook. I studied by memorizing the basics and repeatedly rereading the parts of the questions I got wrong. When I had time, I would open the textbook and just look at it casually
When I studied for a qualification, I used to buy paper textbooks and carry around heavy things, but this time I bought a digital version for the first time. With my smartphone, I can study anywhere, so I wondered why I had been so attached to paper textbooks until now
③ Ask an engineer to teach you
An engineer showed me the Azure portal and explained any areas of concern. I don't usually use console screens like this in my work, so it was a new experience for me. Those taking the exam might want to take a look at the Azure portal (though if you're someone who uses it regularly, I don't think you need to do anything special)
Try studying
Official mock exams were also recommended, but I gave up on them. I focused on ① and ②, studying for about an hour and a half a day. There were four days in total during the study period, including holidays, and I don't remember what I did on two of those days, but I think I probably didn't study. I went camping for the remaining two days, where I just read the textbook while wrapped up in my sleeping bag and sitting by the campfire
My style is to concentrate and study hard on weekdays, and take it easy and just study a little on weekends. I think it's important to have a good balance in everything!
I probably studied 20 hours in total . This is just for reference, but I was able to get the certification even though I had no prior engineering experience. I think study time and study style vary from person to person, but I think it's best to continue in a way that suits you and that you can do without overexerting yourself.
summary
Two weeks flew by, and the day of the exam arrived. I passed the exam successfully! My score826 points. Once you set your goal, the journey to get there seems to go by in a flash.
I have summarized the steps for non-engineers to pass the AZ-900 exam. I don't know if this will be helpful, but I hope it will be useful especially for non-engineers who want to obtain the certification
