[For businesses] From the basics to advanced methods of attracting customers to events! Attracting customers with strategies you can start using today

This is Ohara from the China office

Beyond , we have had the opportunity to hold a variety of events, including IT study groups and co-hosted seminars.
article , we will share our know-how on attracting attendees to events based on that experience, and hope that it will be useful for you.

Why is it difficult to attract attendees to an event?

It's not uncommon to spend time and effort preparing for an event only to find that once you start accepting applications, the public response is lukewarm. So, we thought about why attracting people to an event can seem so difficult

Being buried in information

In addition to the event information you post, new information flows in one after another from news, social media, advertisements, messages from friends, and so on

The information you send out is only visible to your target audience for a split second. It will also be overwritten by newer information on the timeline. Unless you put in a lot of effort, it will be difficult for your target audience to remember it

The target is not set

If you proceed with a project without narrowing down or deciding on a target audience in order to get as many people as possible to participate, you will not be able to reach the people who are truly looking for this information

If you are unclear about who you want to provide value to and what kind of value you want to provide, it will be very difficult to attract customers

There is a lack of public relations time and measures

Depending on the scale of the event and the target demographic, effective attendance requires a sufficient publicity period and multiple measures

If you are satisfied with just posting an announcement once, or if you only post on specific social media platforms, you may be able to reach your target audience, but it will be difficult to get people to take action

It is important to expose people to a variety of information by disseminating information through different media multiple times

Catchphrase

This is the key point. No matter how much effort and content you put into planning an event, it's meaningless if no one notices it, right?
So the first step to attracting customers is to decide on an eye-catching "catchphrase." (This is also the most difficult part...)

Featured image

If you want to create an image of your event, one way to do this is to use interesting images to create a visual effect

At a previous event, we used the following eye-catcher:

Clarify the purpose of the event

It is also important to clearly state the purpose of holding the study group.
However, simply saying "We're holding a study group!" can make it difficult for participants to imagine the benefits of participating.

others

Avoid using the phrase "seminar," and use words like "study group" or "conference."

Research the dates of other events in advance to ensure your event date does not overlap with other events

It's difficult to get together at the end or beginning of the month or on weekends

There are many other small elements to consider, but why not start by spending some time thinking about a title that will attract customers?

About customer acquisition tools

I will also introduce some recommended tools for attracting people to IT-related events that I personally found to be effective in attracting people to events

Doorkeeper

https://www.doorkeeper.jp/

○ Features

  • It looks simple and easy to understand
  • There are even casual study sessions and social gatherings
  • You can add tags such as "event" or "cloud" to make it easier to search

connpass

http://connpass.com/

○ Features

  • It also works with X (formerly Twitter), so you can automatically notify your followers of reservation information. This might be a good idea if the organizer wants to attract a large number of people at once
  • There are many events where engineers, programmers, etc. come to study seriously. (I get the impression that there are few events that are mainly networking events.)
  • You can create a small website on the community page

SlideShare

http://www.slideshare.net/

After the event is over, you can upload the presentation materials used at the event to SlideShare, which will allow
people who were unable to attend the event or are considering attending the next event to know what the event was like, which can
also help attract more people to the next event.

Another use is that you can download the materials at any time, so you can use them as presentation materials at client locations

summary

  • The title is crucial for attracting people to your event
  • "Doorkeeper" is a great way to have fun while learning with organizers and participants
  • For those who want to study hard and acquire knowledge of new technologies, "connpass" is the best
  • After the event, upload it to SlideShare

By the way, even individuals can use this customer acquisition tool to announce events and attract attendees for free, so it would be interesting to try using it for IT-related offline meetups!
