We participated in the "Migration Competition 2017" sponsored by the Japan MSP Association!

My name is Ito and I am an infrastructure engineer.

Our company is a member of
the Japan MSP Association we have been participating in the MSPJ Migration Competition held every year by the Japan MSP Association!

It's a competition to see how well you can migrate servers.

This was my first time participating, and it was very exciting! !

• I would like to completely migrate the current environment to the new environment.
• I would like a report on the implementation details and results.
• When the system is shut down, we need to notify users, so we would like to hear from you.
• It's an old environment that I've been using for a long time, so I'd like it to be updated.
• If possible, I would like to switch so that it does not affect users.
• I would appreciate it if you could have some information about the server.
• If possible, I would like to be able to take a backup since I don't have any backups at the moment.
• If possible, since the number of users will increase in the future, I would like to make the system redundant.
• If possible, I would be happy if the necessary information for handing over to a new infrastructure engineer is compiled.

Comments from the person in charge

• The previous infrastructure engineer quit, so there was no one left who understood this system.
• I've been using it for quite some time, so the environment seems to be outdated, and I've heard that support for the OS is about to end, so I'm worried about security and other things, so I want to do something about it.
• Everyone seems to be using this system quite conveniently, so I'll have to let them know when I switch systems.
• Oh yeah, a new infrastructure engineer is scheduled to join the company soon, so I'd be happy if that person could take over the job.

Looking at the requests, I think they can be divided into things that should be migrated as "musts" and things that people want to be migrated as "wants," so
we sorted them out.

The most important thing about my performance was that I didn't win any prizes. . .
I thought it would be a quick process, but it turned out
to be quite difficult as I stumbled in unexpected places and took up a lot of time due to my lack of Azure knowledge.

It was inspiring.

There was a lot of drinking at the social gathering.
Since all of the participants were from the same industry, we had a lively conversation.

I heard that the next one will be held around the fall of 2017, so I'm sure Beyond will be participating! !
