We participated in the "Migration Competition 2017" sponsored by the Japan MSP Association!

My name is Ito and I am an infrastructure engineer.

the Japan MSP Association we participated in the MSPJ Migration Competition, which is held annually by the Japan MSP Association!

It's a competition to see who can migrate the server the best

This was my first time participating, and it was very inspiring!

Something desired

• I would like to completely transition from my current environment to a new one
• I would like to hear about what was done and the results
• When the system is shut down, we need to notify users, so we would like to be notified
• It's an old environment that I've been using for a long time, so I'd like it to be upgraded
• If possible, I would like to switch over in a way that does not affect users
• If possible, it would be great to have some documentation about the server
• If possible, I would like to be able to back up my data since I am not backing up my data at all right now
• If possible, I would like to make the system redundant as the number of users will increase in the future
• If possible, it would be great if the information necessary to hand over to a new infrastructure engineer was compiled in one place

Comments from the person in charge

• The previous infrastructure engineer left, so there was no one left who understood the system
• I've been using it for quite some time now, so the environment seems to be outdated, and I've heard that OS support will soon end, so I'm worried about security and other things and would like to do something about it
• Everyone seems to find this system quite useful, so I'll have to let them know when I switch systems
• That's right, we have a new infrastructure engineer joining us soon, so I'd be happy if I could hand over the responsibilities to him

It was like this

Looking at the requests, I think they can be divided into things that people want migrated as a "must" and things that people want migrated as a "want," so I
selected those and went ahead and did it.

As for the actual result, I didn't win any prizes...
I thought it would be a quick and easy process, but I stumbled in unexpected places and my lack of knowledge about Azure took up a lot of time, so it
was quite difficult.

It was inspiring

I'd like to thank everyone who helped run the event and those who helped with the server relocation for their hard work.
We drank a lot at the social gathering.
Since everyone was in the same industry, we had a great time talking.

So that's it

I've heard that the next one will be held in the fall of 2017, so Beyond will definitely be there!!
However, I'm currently out due to the age restriction!!!
It's so sad.
