workshop
One of the skills required for infrastructure engineers is the ability to convey accurate information to people.
In order to develop these skills, we held a workshop to improve communication.
Since we can't actually respond to alerts, we can do something like a game...
Yes, a "Drawing Message Game" .
Here are the rules.
- Divide into two teams and decide the order of the people who will draw the pictures.
- Tell the first person the topic and have them draw a picture in their sketchbook (30 seconds time limit)
- After 30 seconds, show the picture to the second person for 5 seconds.
- The second person guesses what the previous person drew and then draws the same picture.
- Repeat this for the third person
- When the third person finishes drawing, the third person answers, ``What did you draw? (What was the theme?)''
- The team with the most people drawing the same picture as the theme wins
The key to this game is how well you can capture and draw the characteristics of the picture for the theme.
Here are the actual pictures drawn by the students.
↑First, the first person looks at the theme and draws a picture. Do you know what the picture is? ?
↑The second person looks at the picture, thinks about what the theme is, and draws the same picture. Something has changed a little.
↑The third person looks at the second picture and draws the same picture. It looks quite different from the first picture...
Then, the three people will check what pictures they drew.
The third person "Kappa"
The second person "Kappa"
1st "Francisco Xavier"
…disappointing! ! Both answers are incorrect and you get 0 points.
The students were unable to draw the main points of the topic well and realized the difficulty of conveying what they wanted to convey.
There may be people who are good at drawing or have an advantage because they are bad at drawing, but the ability to instantly think for yourself and execute, ``If I just draw this, I'll get it across!'' is necessary at work, and it is important to have the ability to think and act on your own, and not be able to tell others what you want. If you are conscious of how to communicate effectively, your work will progress faster.
Through this workshop, I realized that it is quite difficult to communicate with people.
By the way, here is a picture that I thought was very good.
Do you know anything?
The correct answer is "Matsuko Deluxe".
However, the second person who saw this picture interpreted it as ``Princess Kaguya'' and got the wrong answer...
Drawing is still difficult.
Server construction experience session
With Teraoka as the instructor, each student actually tried building a server on a laptop.
There were a lot of words I didn't know, such as AWS, SSH, middleware, etc., and it might have been confusing. (I couldn't keep up either)
However, I hope you understand that we live in an era where you can create a server and create your own site on the Internet in about an hour.
Servers are invisible, so it can be difficult to imagine, but I hope that by experiencing the construction of a server, you will suddenly remember, ``I remember using this command back then.''
This is my first 1-day internship report.
We would like to continue offering internships that can be enjoyed by people who don't know much about the IT industry but are interested in it.
