of the corporate dedicated network line services (internet lines, dedicated lines, closed networks, etc.) offered by Colt Technology Services Co., Ltd. ( Information current as of May 2019)

Overview of "Colt"

■ The only foreign-owned telecommunications company in Japan

■ International network line services between Asia, America and Europe

■ A long-distance network connecting 29 countries on three continents, covering a total distance of 187,000 km, including
metro fiber, undersea and terrestrial dedicated lines.

■ More than 200 cities are connected to the network through over 27,450 direct-connect buildings

■ Owns its own fiber optic network that does not go through NTT's premises
(however, it uses NTT dark fiber in some last-mile locations).

■ You can choose from low-latency, wide-area network lines ranging from 1Gbps to 100Gbps

■ Ethernet, dedicated line, and closed network services.
(Best-effort Internet VPN is not available; only dedicated bandwidth services are provided.)

■ All network backbones are redundant as standard

■ Guaranteed SLA of 99.99% uptime and less than one hour of downtime per year

■ Cloud PBX voice services are also available

■ 24/7 network monitoring

Network interconnection with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

This time, we will use Colt's "Dedicated Interconnect" and
network interconnection with "Google Cloud Platform (GCP)" as examples.

Two patterns of network interconnection


There are two connection methods to interconnect public clouds and networks:
"Dedicated Interconnect" and "Shared Interconnect."

■ Dedicated type (Dedicated Interconnect)
・Dedicated 10G port type for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) only
・Provides cross-connect with Colt's dedicated port
・Colt bandwidth: 1-2-5-10Gbps
・Multiple BGP sessions, VLANs, and multiple VPCs on the same port

■ Shared type (Partner Interconnect)
- Single BGP peering / VLAN-based
- Shared DCA-NNI
- Connection to a dedicated line is possible at the lowest cost

Network interconnection with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

In the GCP console below, select "Dedicated Interconnect."

*When connecting to the network,

you will be charged two bills each month from two companies: "Line charges from Colt" and "Port/Data usage charges from GCP."

To establish a network interconnection with Colt,
in Japan, select one of the following data centers: Equinix TY2 or ComSpace 1.

Colt's network lines mainly consist of Ethernet and dedicated line services, which
may seem to increase costs compared to cheaper best-effort network lines, but
it is an ideal service for businesses that have the following requirements:

■ With the increasing use of cloud computing, communication delays are becoming a concern with best-effort lines.
■ We want to centrally manage and integrate network connections between domestic and overseas bases using a single communications carrier.
■ We want to operate systems that require mission-critical workloads.
