[Company system] What I felt after trying remote work/telework [Coronavirus countermeasures]

Our company has announced " Measures against the new coronavirus [from April 1st] "

As we announced, we are implementing remote work for all employees

It's been about a month since we started working remotely!

I'm currently writing this while working remotely from home!!

 

This time, I'd like to share my thoughts after working remotely for about a month

I'll summarise the pros and cons!

Advantages of remote work/teleworking

Reduced risk of infection

Working from home reduces the risk of infection!

No more commute time

Since I commute by train, I no longer have to worry about the risk of infection on crowded trains or in crowds

Surprisingly, there is no disruption to work

When I started working, I found that I was able to work just as well as I would in the office

Meeting times have been shortened

In a web conference, people tend to only talk about what is necessary, so there is less chatter

As a result, it often ends in a short amount of time

Because there are fewer opportunities for people to talk to me, I can concentrate on my work and work at my own pace.

When you work at a company, you have many opportunities to interact with people, so you may be asked to do sudden work,

I was often distracted by conversations when I wanted to concentrate on my work,

Since those kinds of things have become less common, I can work at my own pace

As a result, work efficiency has increased dramatically!

Able to do household chores, etc

When you work from home, you can relax during your breaks or when you want to refresh yourself a bit

It was very helpful as I could get my housework and errands done!

Disadvantages of remote work/teleworking

It's hard to work if the work environment isn't in order

When working for long hours, you need to choose a desk and chair that suits you

I thought it was quite difficult to work with

My posture is worse than when I was working in the office and my back hurts..

The internet speed may also be slow,

I realized that the office was a really good environment for working!

Difficulty communicating with other employees

In the office, you can talk to someone right away

When working remotely/teleworking, there are fewer opportunities to talk to people, which results in less time for communication

Also, it's difficult to communicate with people online,

I felt that we needed to take steps to improve communication

I can't immediately ask questions about things I don't understand at work, and it takes a long time to resolve them

When working remotely/teleworking, it's difficult to speak up just for that reason

It will also take time to figure it out on your own

Difficult to switch on and off

Because the place where you live and work will be the same,

If you're not used to working remotely, it can be difficult to switch on and off..

Lack of exercise

I don't get enough exercise because I don't have many opportunities to commute or go outside

Nowadays, there are fewer opportunities to go out due to the coronavirus

The amount of food I eat hasn't changed that much, so I'm seriously lacking in exercise... (laughs)

I miss people

This is due to the impact of the coronavirus,

When you work in an office, there are a lot of people around you

I realized how lonely it is that we were able to have casual conversations, but can't do that anymore... (laughs)

My first experience of remote work/teleworking

There are advantages and disadvantages, but there are many things that you won't know until you try it

Also, there are many points that I think can be improved immediately if I do it this way,

Overall, there were a lot of positive aspects to be honest

 

Until now, working in an office has been the norm,

I discovered issues and problems that I had never imagined before

It was a great opportunity to improve our work efficiency in the future!
