My name is Fujisawa, and I am in charge of public relations and recruitment, and I am glad that NiziU was able to debut safely.
On November 11, 2020, we held a "Virtual 1-day Internship"
(The person making the peace is Morita, the director)
so we decided to "get together in a virtual space and do something," like the online game company information session we held previously
I thought it wasn't enough just to get together on Zoom and talk, and since I was an intern, I wanted the students to do something with their hands, so this time I had them try out various missions using hack crafts. .
Learn programming even if you can't write code
"Hack Craft" is a programming teaching material developed 8x9 (Hack)
The operations are done using a mouse, which is called visual programming, so even people who have never written code can learn programming from scratch.
This time, our intern was Mr. Iwasaki from Hack, and Noboru-kun, a current high school student, helped us create the world!
▲From the front: genius high school student Noboru-kun, hacker Mr. Iwasaki, CEO Haraoka, director Morita, and Sakashita from the management department.
It was my first time to conduct an internship completely online, so I was worried whether the students would enjoy it properly, but in terms of the results, it was a great success
This time, I would like to send you a report on such a "Virtual 1-day Internship".
Gather at Hackcraft while connecting via Zoom
During the internship, I connected to Zoom to communicate and proceeded with two screens with Hack Craft.
Have students connect to the server we prepared and log in to HackCraft.
When you log into Hackcraft, a hermit crab avatar will appear.
While moving this hermit crab, you can stack blocks to create objects or buildings.
The operation method is based on Blockly, the same as Scratch, rather than writing programming code, so you can stack and move blocks intuitively.
▲Select items such as “movement” and “action” and arrange them in the order that suits your purpose.
In this way, with HackCraft, even people who have never touched programming can learn the fun of programming .
Some of the students who participated this time had never touched programming before, but they learned the operations in the first half and were able to proceed with the second half without any delay.
Challenge 4 missions
, we had them take on four missions in order to acquire the skills necessary for engineers, ``investigation ability'', ``construction ability'', ``trouble handling ability'', and ``teamwork'
Mission details
- quiz
- building
- Turn on the server lamp
- Team development! Build a tower!
Quiz to find answers from HP and recruitment site
First of all, we have prepared a mission to help the player get used to the controls, such as ``Answer a quiz related to Beyond, and if you answer correctly, you can advance to the next room.''
The winner is the one who can find the answer to a problem like this quickly on the website or on a recruitment site. (Actually, I didn't really decide who would win or lose.)
When I asked a student who answered all the questions correctly within the allotted time how he looked for the answers, he , ``Instead of looking at the site from beginning to end, I searched for the page by searching for keywords on Google,'' which was an eye-opening experience. It was.
I think engineers are suited to people who can think about ways to improve efficiency, so it was nice to get a glimpse of that ability.
A building that becomes quiet when you concentrate
The second mission "Building" .
This is also a mission to help students learn the basic operations of hack craft, and as the theme suggests, let's stack up blocks.
"ID" and "meta" are set for each, and you will place the block by entering the numerical value accurately.
Building is an individual play, and once you start, you get absorbed in it, so I helped the students so as not to disturb their concentration.
Find the correct circuit and switch on the server
The third mission is a little more difficult.
"light the server lamp" , so let's light the correct circuit while avoiding obstacles so that the server on the right side of the image lights up.
If you light the wrong circuit, the server will burst into flames. (actually burns)
Therefore, it is necessary to create a program while thinking about the circuit in your head so as not to cause a fire.
To be honest, it was difficult for me as a non-engineer and I couldn't do it at all (lol)
However, some of the students were able to understand quickly and successfully light the lamp, so I guess the brain structure of the talented students is different...! I realized that.
Finally, team development!
At the end, we had a team tower building showdown to make the most of today's achievements.
The rule is that ``the team that builds the tallest tower that people can climb within the time
For the tower theme, participants will be asked to choose one tower from among the tallest objects associated with each Beyond location.
- Osaka: Tsutenkaku
- Yokohama: Landmark Tower
- Shikoku: Tsurugiyama
- Canada: Monroeville
Each team had our engineers, Kanbara-kun (20th graduate) and Nagato-kun (21st graduate), join us in support roles, and we discussed what kind of tower we would build and who would play what role. did.
▲Kanbara-kun, an infrastructure engineer. A divine being who also has knowledge of programming.
▲Nagato-kun, a development engineer. I like Crayon Shin-chan.
At the end, both teams announced what kind of tower they had built and tried to see if people could actually climb it.
▲The white tower is “Tsutenkaku” and the green tower is “Mt. Tsurugi”
What the two teams have in common is that they are aiming to get higher, and after building the foundation, they stack up the blocks like a spiral staircase.
But look.
Tsutenkaku has a door
When the management saw this, they decided to include ``art points'' (I should have told you that from the beginning.)
Tsurugi was superior in terms of being ``taller'', but Tsutenkaku was superior in terms of ``attention to detail''.
▲Tsurugiyama, the highest mountain in Tokushima Prefecture. It would be scary to climb if it actually looked like this.
And the result of voting by 4 judges...
- Kenzan: 1 point for height, 1 point for art, 2 points
- Tsutenkaku: 3 artistic points
Therefore, the Tsutenkaku team wins! !
The Tsurugiyama team moved to a strategy of increasing height early on, and some ideas were seen in which the base was dark green and the upper part was yellow-green, but the Tsutenkaku team was more faithful to the actual building. The fact that it has a spiral staircase was highly praised, and it was a great success.
In this way, both teams were able to demonstrate their teamwork and create something within the limited time available, so I think the participants were able to experience even a little bit of what it's like to be an engineer.
Student's voice
At the end of the internship, we asked students to give their impressions, and we received the following feedback.
"I think it's a really refreshing internship. I was impressed in a way."
``I had never done programming before, so I was nervous at first, but once I tried it, it was fun and I'm glad I took part in the internship.''
"I thought I'd like to try hack crafting again."
“Other internships often end with group discussions, but it was refreshing and fun to work together.”
``I'm learning, but it also feels like I'm playing, so it's fun.''
"When I saw the way the employees communicated with each other, I felt like it was a homely workplace."
It seems like everyone enjoyed it, so I'm really glad I did it!
This internship was possible because we were unable to meet in real life.
I feel like I was able to prove that it is possible to convey the company's atmosphere and business content online.
We are doing casual interviews online!
That's all for the report on the "Virtual 1-day Internship"!
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, I think many 22-year-old students are worried about how to job hunt and how to choose a company.
In order to be able to properly meet these people, Beyond would like to find ways to meet them in new ways.
The next internship will be held at the end of February, so we will notify you again.
“Honestly, I don’t know what company Beyond is, but I’m a little curious.”
If so, please feel free to talk openly with us during a casual interview.
If you still want to find out more, there is information on the recruitment website, so please take a look.
