News from Toronto Part 4🍁【Delicious Toronto🍔🍺】

Hello.
This
is Kawa from the B+ Tree System Solutions Department.

It was quite pleasant until early October, but recently winter in Canada has suddenly shown its true colors, and
these days I just want to wrap myself in my blankets. I'm going back home soon, so I'm both sad and excited, and I've asked the next person to write a report from Toronto.

Continuing from last time , autumn is the season for hearty appetites, isn't it? (The top photo is of Icee, a festival specialty.) This time, I'll write an entry that will surely make you hungry. Please use it as a reference when you visit Toronto 🍁 (Since I'm a craft beer lover, there will also be some beer-related content 🍻)

Canadian cuisine is world peace🌍

If someone asks me what Canadian food is like, I'd probably answer, "It's a mix of all sorts of international cuisine."
(Strictly speaking, Canadian cuisine often includes poutine and pierogi, which apparently originated in Poland.)
That's how deeply ingrained immigrant food culture is, and everything is basically authentic, so it's really good. Almost everywhere is delicious. One of
the great things about Canada is that you can find restaurants serving Middle Eastern, Asian, and South American cuisine everywhere. For me, it's paradise.

Greek Cuisine

Among them, I recommend Greek food 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 ▼ Salad topped with goat cheese ▼ Souvlaki , which has a great aroma and flavor and is very light and delicious ▼ Hummus, a chickpea dip-like dish *apparently it is originally a Middle Eastern dish, etc. The flavors are unique and not very familiar to Japanese people, but they are quite light and easy to eat and delicious.

Torontoa Greektown, and there are many Greek restaurants along Danforth Street.
It's easily accessible by taking Line 2 (eastbound) of the TTC (train).

South America 🌮

There are Mexican, Peruvian, Jamaican, and many other cuisines. Everyone loves tacos 🌮, right? I absolutely love them and would eat them every day. I ate them at all sorts of places during my stay. There are still not many Mexican restaurants in Japan, so I hope there will be more. 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮 In Toronto, perhaps due to the area, there are many Mexican restaurants in Kensington Market . (As of 10/20/2023, the going rate for one taco is around $3-5) ▼ Gus Tacos tacos $5/🌮 ▼ El Trompo tacos $3/🌮 (5🌮 set) ▼ Mysterious Mexican restaurant in Plaza Latina $5/🌮

What surprised me about this place was that everywhere uses cilantro for flavoring (I don't remember seeing it before, but maybe it's always been like that?). It's incredibly
delicious. It's a little far from the city center, but I recommend the third place, Plaza Latina, a mall-like place. It's so Latin that you might mistake it for Mexico. The taste is outstanding.

🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝Also , when you think of South America, you think of Jamaicans, right? 🏝🎵Jerk chicken is a dish you often see here , and once you try that taste, you'll be hooked. There's also a Jamaican restaurant on the first floor of the Beyond Office Building, which I recommend.

▼ Oxtail (stewed oxtail), jerk rice (left) 🐂 and jerk shrimp 🦐 (right).

You can almost always find oxtail dishes at Jamaican restaurants.

Middle Eastern/Indian Cuisine 🍛

🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛
The Middle East is a vast region, but it's famous for its curry, Roti (curry wrapped in a thin naan-like bread), and
Biriyani (spiced rice). The unique spices and aromas are fantastic. The casualness (in a good way) of the staff also adds to the charm.

▼ Goat meat curry 🐐

▼ Roti 🍛 (filled with spinach curry 🍛 Saag chicken)

▼ Mutton biryani 🐏

As expected from restaurants run by people from the region, most of them offer Halal options.
In addition, (generally speaking) the portions are huge. Middle Eastern restaurants, in particular, often serve portions large enough for two meals, so taking leftovers home is a must.

Canada Edition 🍁🍔

🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔As
I mentioned at the beginning, since it's a multi-ethnic country, there isn't really such a thing as "Canadian cuisine."
▼ Poutine (potatoes topped with cheese curds and gravy) is famous

The hamburgers are absolutely delicious. They're generally generous in portion size and tasty, and almost always a winner 🍔.
Not only are there specialty hamburger shops, but I also recommend the hamburgers at pubs. The fries are also huge
, and once you try them, you might never go back to chain burgers.

▼ Burgers from Granite Brewery (brewery and pub restaurant) 🍔 ▼ My personal top recommendation: The Burgenator in Kensington Market 🍔

Craft Beer Edition 🍺

🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺It
may not be widely known, but Ontario, where Toronto is located, has many breweries of all sizes.
(There are also many wineries around Niagara Falls 🍷)
There are so many kinds of beer, from cider to IPAs and golden ales, it's a huge variety.
When I was there, it was also Oktoberfest season, so there were many limited-edition beers related to it.
There are so many to choose from, it's hard to decide, but I'll introduce some of my favorites.

Granite Brewery:
A brewery and pub located about a 10-minute walk from Eglinton station. They have a wide selection of IPAs with vibrant flavors. As mentioned in the Canada section, their food is also quite good.

The Only Cafe
This is a unique and stylish pub that also functions as a hostel, which I previously introduced in my "Artistic Toronto" series. It has plenty of counter seating and is primarily cash-on-delivery, making it easy to drop in. It's located right near Donlands Station.

▼ They primarily serve Ontario craft beers on tap. While not a brewery, they offer a wide variety, making it difficult to choose. (Image shows Cider)

▼ The nearest station is probably Spadina, near Collective Arts . It's about a 10-minute walk west from Kensington Market. Unlike other breweries, this is a brewery and pub that fully embraces its art space. Both the interior and exterior are stylish. The wall painting by Emily May Rose, who is active mainly in Toronto, is very eye-catching. Music and art events are held every week in the event space in the basement. There are many beers to choose from, and after much deliberation I ordered a Flight (a small sampler of several kinds) 🍻 Each one is distinctive, and there are many unique and innovative flavors here that you won't find anywhere else. Note that the kitchen is closed on Mondays.

Bar Volo
is about a 5-minute walk from Wellesley station. It's a brewery and pub located in a quiet area just off the main street. There are several sister establishments, and I'd love to try them all.
The concept is consistent, and the interior is very stylish with brickwork, giving you a strange feeling of having wandered into a movie set just by being inside.

They also brew their own beers here, and the types of beer they offer, such as golden ale and IPA, are orthodox but are characterized by their solid flavor.

I couldn't introduce everything , but I've packed in lots of my favorites, so I hope it will be helpful for someone's sightseeing! 🍁
