According to the official page above, it is short for " T he O ther I deployment's let ters" (another implementation).
the name of original FIGlet was given to counter the fact that it shortened to
F rank, I an and G len's let This is a function such as Unicode and color output using the libcaca library, aiming to become an alternative to FIGlet.
