Developing ideas and tracking numbers. A marketer's job is to hone their skills with intuition and logic

Hello. This is Miyoshi from the recruitment team.
I recently took a staycation on Awaji Island. It was my first time traveling in a style that involved relaxing at a hotel rather than sightseeing, and it was a wonderful experience.
I enjoyed simply dozing off while feeling the subtle changes in the room's atmosphere depending on the time of day and weather. It was a great way to spend time. It made me feel motivated to work hard again.

Today, I would like to introduce our marketing position. What image do you have when you hear the word "marketer"? I hope you will learn a little about what we actually do on a daily basis, the work, and the atmosphere

Marketer: Who is Mr. Hiruko?

Name: Kazumasa Ebisu
Occupation: Marketer
Department: Innovation Strategy Department, Marketing Section
Hobbies: Coffee, Pokémon cards

Hiruko has a bright and friendly personality, and is easily able to talk to anyone, making the atmosphere more relaxed. Her light-hearted demeanor is also accompanied by her keen observational skills, which allow her to notice changes in people and their surroundings. When I consult her, she not only empathizes intuitively but also provides logical explanations, so I often find my thoughts make sense. She also has a personal YouTube presence, and has the expressive ability to flexibly portray the different characters required depending on the person and the situation. She naturally combines both cheerfulness and insight, creating a multifaceted charm

Why did you join Beyond?

—What were the deciding factors in joining the company, and what were your impressions of the selection process?
Ebisu: I initially interviewed for a part-time position, but at the end of the interview I had the opportunity to speak with President Haraoka. Contrary to the image I had initially had of a strict and unapproachable president, he was very friendly and easy to talk to. Through this experience, I felt that the company's overall flat and open atmosphere stemmed from this person, and that became the deciding factor in my joining the company.

--Were there any differences between your expectations before joining the company and your actual experience after joining?
Ebisu: There weren't any particularly big differences. I think it was a big help that I was able to watch videos on the official YouTube channel before joining the company and learn in advance about "what kind of people work here" and "the general atmosphere of the company." If I had to pick one thing that surprised me, it would be that there were more club activities and company events than I expected. I thought it was rare to find a company that places so much importance on communication.

What does the marketing department do?

Roles held

Ebisu-san: I'm in charge of marketing for the entire company. I monitor and adjust the performance of Google Ads and social media ads, and I also create images and videos for advertisements.

As part of optimizing the homepage's SEO, I also renovate and rewrite the entire site, and check and request corrections to blog articles written by in-house members. I'm also in charge of planning, filming, appearing in videos, and giving editing instructions for the YouTube channel, and sometimes I edit videos myself when necessary. There's actually a lot of detailed work involved, such as checking for subtle expressions and editing errors

In addition, I am involved in a wide range of activities, such as disseminating information on social media, running regular seminars aimed at acquiring leads, and producing and running pamphlets and novelties when exhibiting at trade shows. Finally, an important part of my job is analyzing the effectiveness of these measures and using the results to improve future initiatives

Daily Schedule

Ebisu-san: My days are completely different from day to day. Some days I have a packed schedule of meetings, while other days I can focus almost entirely on hands-on work. This time, I'll describe the flow of a day with a moderate number of meetings.

I start my morning by checking chats, emails, and social media to keep up with what's happening both inside and outside the company. After that, while my mind is still fresh, I often consider the direction of our plans and prioritize ongoing initiatives. I try to spend as much time as possible in the morning on work that requires thinking

In the afternoon, I often have multiple meetings, and I'm constantly checking the products I've created and coordinating with project members. In between, I'm busy working on things that require more hands-on time, like preparing for events and making small adjustments to banners and forms. In the evening, I often summarize the status of the initiatives I've implemented that day and put together tasks for the next day

What is your important work philosophy and what is rewarding about being a marketer?

Ebisu-san: It's about not neglecting the basics. Unlike studying, I think there are fewer things in the real world that have a single right answer, but in order to get closer to that right answer, many people have gone through a process of trial and error, and that's what has become the standard strategy today. So I feel that making decisions based on those basics will likely lead to a more accurate answer. I sometimes get carried away with ideas that just pop into my head, so I keep this in mind as a reminder to myself (laughs).

If I had to say how I utilize my sensibilities, it would be in areas that are hard to put into words, like design and video/image creation. With videos, I use analytics to check the numbers for areas where playback is slow, and my fleeting inspiration comes in handy when thinking about ways to improve them

When I'm faced with a difficulty, I try to think and try again. At that time, I try to think of as many options as possible. I think the moment I feel most rewarded is when I finish an event. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I feel physically exhausted

What does he look like in private?

How to spend your private time

Ebisu-san: I mostly spend my time shooting and editing videos. I also participate in card game tournaments and work out at the gym. I value taking time to refresh myself while balancing my hobbies and exercise.

Hobbies and interests

Ebisu-san: I love coffee, and I enjoy buying beans, grinding them myself, and brewing it. Lately, I've been particular about the beans and brewing methods, and it's fun to find my own unique taste. I also brew coffee at the bar counter at work and let various people try it.

A message to our readers

Ebisu-san: I often hear people say, "I don't understand what marketing is all about," so I'd be happy if this could give them even a little bit of an idea. I hope that the fun and rewarding aspects of my job come across.

That concludes our interview with marketer Hiruko!

Mr. Hiruko is active in many areas both inside and outside the company. I hope that I have been able to convey even a little of the fun of marketing work and the attention to detail he puts into his daily work
