Breaking away from your inflexible self ~Business coaching~

BYDBLOG_K01

Hello, this is Kida from the Web Services Division

There are probably many people who are dissatisfied with their daily lives, have worries, or conversely, when asked "What are your worries?" they can't think of anything in particular, but feel like their days are boring. I'm sure there are also people who feel like their world is gradually shrinking due to the commute between work and home, the set schedule for spending their holidays

I recentlycoaching (business coaching), and it helped me uncover deeply ingrained "unpleasant aspects" of myself that I wasn't even aware of,me to organize my thoughts and feelings. My mind feels incredibly clear, and I'm shocked at how much my perspective on events happening around me, both at work and in my personal life, has changed. You might think, "Isn't it just that you're easily swayed by other people's opinions or that you're naive?", but I want those cynical people to know about this.

That was a long introduction, but I would like to leave a review of coaching today to let people who feel like they are "worried," "dissatisfied," "not having fun," or "want to change" know about it

What is coaching?

Firstwhat exactly is "coaching"? The following is information from materials provided by the coach I actually received coaching from:

What is coaching? (Quoted from Coach Otsuka's materials)

Coaching is a technique that helps you organize your thoughts and provides support as a confidant!
See the materials here.

You'll be given time to become aware of your subconscious and reconsider why you think or feel that way. That said, they won't dig deep and ask you questions, or dismiss your way of thinking like "That's wrong," or give you biased advice like "I think..." It's just a casual chat, starting with a casual "How are you doing lately?" and it feels like you're being "coached mentally." It's hard to put into words!

What kind of people are doing it? (Coach)

I"Jun@Trouble Consultation." The operator is a man named Otsuka, whom I knew unilaterally because he had spoken at a Beyond study group in the past, but to be honest, I didn't know who "Otsuka-san" was until I received coaching from him. (I thought he was an engineer working at an IT company.)

Since she wasn't a coworker, family member, friend, or hospital counselor, I felt like the words came out smoothly during the coaching session without me having to choose my words carefully or feeling nervous. But more than that, I, she exuded an aura of "just relax."think it was because Coach Otsuka herself had a relaxed demeanor (in a good way), and even

Coaching Content

coachingIn my case, we started with casual conversations about my likes and dislikes, recent events, etc. The reason is that before receiving coaching, I was in the following state:

  • I wasn't particularly worried about anything
  • I didn't take the job voluntarily, but because the company offered me this opportunity
  • People who had already taken the course had raved about it, but I was honestly skeptical because of how rave it was and because I didn't know what the coaching was

Because of this, I hadn't thought about what to talk about, and I was just introducing myself and talking casually about what kind of person I am, what I like and dislike, etc. However, something caught Coach Otsuka's eye, and the conversation went deeper and deeper, and eventually I realized that this was how I had been thinking, and I discovered my weaknesses

Butthe amazing thing about coaching is that it doesn't just end with "finding" something; it helps you figure out how to use that to your advantage (or solve the problem) going forward. I received concrete suggestions, and it felt like I had discovered a path I would never have found on my own.

Incidentally, during the coaching session, Coach Otsuka never uses technical jargon. From various perspectives, he uses very easy-to-understand metaphors to affirm my feelings and thoughts as we talk. As we delve deeper, he doesn't miss when the conversation veers off track or my perspective changes without me realizing it, and he encourages me to further organize my thoughts by saying, "What you said earlier and what you're saying now seem similar but are different. Which one do you feel more strongly about right now?" This led to many "Ah, that's right!" moments of realization.

In the end, I was able to discover the part of me that I hadn't been aware of before, "What kind of person do I want to be?", and figure out what actions would be effective in order to achieve that. By the way, at the start of the coaching, I declared that I didn't have any particular worries, but this is what happened (lol)

My impressions after trying it

childAfter actually experiencing it, as I mentioned at the beginning, that it's especially effective for people who have problems, or even just vaguely feel that their daily lives are boring or that they want to change themselves. I'm a cynical person who tends to look at things like fortune-telling and mentalists with a bit of skepticism, so I approached coaching with a "what's it all about?" attitude, but it ended up being very beneficial for me. Even people who think they are good at "looking at themselves from an objective perspective" might be mistaken.Coaching is less about looking at yourself from an objective perspective and more about teaching you how to focus on your own heart.

However, to avoid wasting time, it seems important to be your "true self" during coaching.Coaches don't try to find fault with the person they're coaching or force them to have problems, so I think it's pointless and a waste of time for people like me who "don't have any problems." (I was quickly turned on, so I'll disregard that.)

Reactions from those around me who received coaching

Almost everyone in my workplace has taken the course, and I hear that they're all glad they did. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when we all experienced a shift to remote work, soit was a thoughtful "time for consideration" that the company provided to hopefully alleviate some of the stress on our team members. I think many people took the time during the stay-at-home period to re-evaluate their lives and futures, even if it wasn't through coaching. Also, for those who thought, "I want to start something!", it's a good idea to start by talking to someone or exchanging ideas, but choosing coaching as that person might lead to even better results.

Incidentally, almost everyone in the company says they "don't talk about work during coaching sessions." I was the same, butultimately it had a positive impact on both my work and personal life.

summary

Coaching was "a time to look in the mirror and see myself objectively." As I wrote in the title, whether you're 30 or even 50, if you're troubled or vaguely want to change something, why not try coaching? As we get older, we tend to become stubborn and inflexible, but in just over an hour, we can easily return to our roots and feel relieved.Troublesome mental states such as "not being able to get along well at work," "not getting along with family," or "feeling inferior to friends" are not dismissed in coaching.Don't assume that "even if I consult someone, I'll just be told the same thing," but I hope you'll keep in mind that "coaching" is one way to get started on changing yourself.
