This is TK from the Canadian office, who was recently infected with the coronavirus and has lost his sense of taste due to the aftereffects. The world is gray.
Beyond GTA our Canadian office, participated as a guest at Japan's largest game industry event "MEGAMIGS 2022", which was held in Montreal, Canada from October 19th to 22nd! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Montreal, Canada's second most populous city.
What is MEGAMIGS?
With over 15 years of history, it is Canada's largest event for game developers, held every fall in Montreal. It seems that the past two years have been held online/hybrid due to the pandemic, but this year, in 2022, it will be held locally. It's like what we call TGS (Tokyo Game Show) in Japan.

Event details
Beyond GTA was invited by local partner company EdgeGap to participate as a guest on the first and second day of the B2B event.
The main venue will feature game companies with studios in Montreal and Quebec (both cities in Quebec), as well as large companies such as EA Games and Ubisoft, as well as individual creators exhibiting in the indie game section. A variety of companies and creators were exhibiting.
Many technical staff and game creators were also in attendance, and I witnessed passionate discussions among creators at the booth.
In addition, various titles that have not yet been released on the market were unveiled on this occasion, and there was a lot of content for guest participation, such as being able to try them out.
In addition to this, talk events and conferences are held at a separate venue with various celebrities and intellectuals from the game industry, and the venue is excited every day with various topics such as the cutting edge of the industry and future trends. Ta.
We will also exhibit at Beyond GTA next year. . With these thoughts in mind, I left the venue where I had enjoyed myself for two days.
montreal tourism
When I wasn't participating in the event, I toured around the city of Montreal, where the event was held. Although it is the second most populous city in Canada, the city is not that big, so you can explore various places and areas on foot.
The old French-style townscape of the downtown area is still preserved, and there are many churches with historical value that can be seen throughout the city.
Also, I happened to be there at the end of October, which was the middle of the autumn foliage season, and the trees along the road were changing colors so vividly that it was very impressive.
For food, we ate poutine, a Canadian B-class gourmet dish that originated in Quebec, in Montreal, at a long-established diner. It was junk food consisting of French fries covered with gravy and cheese, and was served with the city's famous smoked meat. It was a rich and flavorful North American food, but it was delicious (however, the portion was so large that I couldn't finish it all).
On another day, I had the city's famous smoked meat sandwich-style at a famous, long-established restaurant. This is also incredibly voluminous and you will have to do your best to finish it all.
Although it was a short stay, everything I ate during that time was delicious, and the small bagels from small bakeries around town were also of very good quality, so I had the impression that the food was quite fulfilling.
summary
The two days went by in the blink of an eye, with events and sightseeing. Quebec, where Montreal is located, actually boasts the third largest gaming industry in the world, and the industry community seems to be very active. Although there aren't many Japanese people in terms of population, it seems like creators are always in demand, so if you're a game creator who wants to experience living overseas, this might be a good place for you.
The CEO of Beyond GTA, who was accompanying me this time, also really liked the city and said to himself, ``Maybe next time we'll have a Montreal office.'' It might not be long before we Beyond move on to Montreal. . ! ?
