[Interview] We asked Canadian members what they felt after joining Beyond! (3rd edition)

Q&A images

Thank you! This is Tama-chan, who has been working in Canada until recently!

Recently, I have returned to Japan from Canada and am now realizing the good points of Japan.

Meanwhile, this time I've written a blog compiling interviews with local members while I was working in Canada

will mark the third interview project for this blog

There are also past interview articles, so be sure to take a look and take a look at this interview!

Part 1

[Interview] We asked mid-career members what they felt after joining Beyond!

Part 2

[Interview] We asked mid-career members what they felt after joining Beyond! (2nd edition)

Purpose of the interview

If you are thinking about joining Beyond or are interested, you will likely check out the Beyond Blog. We publish a variety of content, and you can learn more about the appeal of Beyond through our blog.

We conducted the third interview project in hopes that it will be helpful for those interested in Beyond. This time, we interviewed members who actually live and work in Canada about Beyond and life in Canada!

Interview content

The contents of this interview are as follows.

1. What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

② Why I came to Canada

③ What's common in Canada or what surprised me about Canada

④ Why I met Beyond and how I joined the company

⑤ What I felt after joining the company, what surprised me, what I liked, etc.

So let's go and have an interview! !

1. What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

I was an IT support and web developer

② Why I came to Canada

I had vaguely thought that I would live abroad when I became an adult, but when I was 18 years old and woke up in the hospital, the first thing I thought was, "It's dangerous ! I was going to die without going abroad! " and came to my age when I was 20, thinking about studying abroad in earnest.

③ What's common in Canada or what surprised me about Canada

Although the construction was said to be over this year, it has been going on for over five years (and it is still going on so it's not over at all), and the app says that the next bus is coming soon, but the bus suddenly disappears (certainly late).

④ Why I met Beyond and how I joined the company

Introducing a friend. Apparently I was my first time using a referral!

⑤ What I felt after joining the company, what surprised me, what I liked, etc.

Anyway, freedom

People who work in Japan also have vivid hair colours, and I have been blonde since I joined the company. I wear whatever I want and wear as much clothes as I want to work.

Good relationships

There are few people in the Canadian office, but even so, there are only surprisingly many kind people.

There are many opportunities to learn

In Canada, there are fewer people, so you often have opportunities to interact with your boss. Therefore, I receive lectures directly from my boss, the company's top engineer, and I am being mentored by the president so that I can grow as an adult.

1. What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

I worked for a company that sold surveillance equipment (surveillance cameras, recorders, etc.) as "Network Support Technician." Our main duties were to respond to customer questions via phone or email, troubleshoot remotely, and network settings for monitoring equipment.

② Why I came to Canada

I came to Canada because I wanted my son to grow up in an environment where learning pressure is moderate. Childhood is a very valuable time in life, and I think it's a waste of time when you're completely surrounded by the pressures of exams and other things.

③ What's common in Canada or what surprised me about Canada

Sometimes confused about Canadian units of measure. For example, individual IDs such as driver's licenses have their height listed in centimeters (cm), but in everyday life it is common to use feet/inch (ft/in) to express your height.

④ Why I met Beyond and how I joined the company

At first I was looking for an IT company near my house. I never thought I would be hired by an IT company that could use Japanese!

⑤ What I felt after joining the company, what surprised me, what I liked, etc.

1. The workplace atmosphere at Beyond is very good, especially friendly to people with no experience .
2. Regarding the business trip system, a Japanese colleague may come to Canada on a business trip once every few months. That's why I can meet new colleagues every time, which is very refreshing and interesting, and I look forward to it .
3. Companies that provide transportation expenses are very rare in Canada.

1. What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

He is a recruitment sales and recruitment consultant, and while using the applicant management system, he made visualization of recruitment status and suggestions for improving business issues in human resources.

② Why I came to Canada

I decided to quit my job and thought, "My life is only once!" and came to Canada for a working holiday for a year... but before I knew it, I had been in my eighth year!

③ What's common in Canada or what surprised me about Canada

What's more, Canada's unique is that while people you don't know suddenly talk to you and you're extremely kind, you don't care about others in a good way. When I was in Japan, I was worried that I had to wear clothes that suited my age, but now I'm wandering around in my pajamas.
I was also surprised by the large number of wild squirrels, skunks and raccoons! Squirrels in particular are everywhere, and they take too many photos to make a photo book of squirrels.

④ Why I met Beyond and how I joined the company

It was a great opportunity to meet Morita and Seiken, and I thought, "I want to work with these two!"

⑤ What I felt after joining the company, what surprised me, what I liked, etc.

I was surprised to see how close I was to the president and boss! The people at Beyond are really friendly and even the shy I can work with peace of mind.
What's interesting is that we monitor our customers' servers 24 hours a day in Japan and Canada. When the Canadian office first opened, it was difficult to set up the structure, but we have created a system that allows two locations to work together to provide services, and I am excited to be able to work as a part of that!

summary

Thank you very much to everyone who helped us in the interview.

I would be happy if those who read the blog could get a little bit of a sense of what kind of company Beyond works in their Canadian offices and what kind of atmosphere it has.

See you then!
