Part 2

[Interview] We asked our mid-career members about their impressions after joining Beyond! (Part 2)

Purpose of the interview

Anyone who is interested or considering joining Beyond will likely check out the Beyond Blog. The blog posts a variety of content, and you can learn more about the appeal of Beyond through it

We have conducted the third interview series in the hopes that it will be useful for those who are interested in BEYOND. This time, we interviewed members who actually live and work in Canada about BEYOND and life in Canada!

Interview Content

The contents of this interview are as follows:

① What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

② What made you come to Canada?

3. Canadian things or things that surprised me in Canada

4. How did you come across Beyond and why did you decide to join the company?

⑤ What are some interesting, surprising, or good things you have noticed since joining the company?

Now, let's get started with the interview!!

① What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

IT support and as a web developerI used to work in

② What made you come to Canada?

Since I was little, I vaguely thought that I would live abroad when I grew up, but when I woke up in the hospital after a pretty serious car accident when I was 18, the first thing I thought was, "Oh no! I almost died without being able to go abroad!" That was the trigger that made me seriously consider studying abroad, and I came here when I was 20.

3. Canadian things or things that surprised me in Canada

They said the construction would be finished this year, but it's been going on for over five years (and it's still going on now and doesn't look like it'll ever end), and the app shows that the next bus is coming soon, but that bus suddenly disappears (which means it's definitely late)

4. How did you come across Beyond and why did you decide to join the company?

I was introduced to the company by a friend, and apparently I was their first referral hire!

⑤ What are some interesting, surprising, or good things you have noticed since joining the company?

Freedom

People working in Japan have vibrant hair colors, and I've had blonde hair ever since I joined the company. There's also a free dress code, so I can wear whatever I want to work

Good interpersonal relationships

There aren't many people in the Canadian office, but everyone there is surprisingly kind

There are many opportunities to learn

In Canada, there are fewer people, so there are more opportunities to interact with superiors. As a result, I receive lectures directly from my superiors, who are the company's top engineers, and the company president personally mentors me so that I can grow as a member of society

① What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

I worked as a "Network Support Technician" at a company that sells surveillance equipment (surveillance cameras, recorders, etc.) My main duties were answering customer questions by phone and email, troubleshooting remotely, and configuring the network settings for surveillance equipment

② What made you come to Canada?

I came to Canada because I wanted my son to grow up in an environment with moderate academic pressure. Childhood is a very precious time in life, and I think it's a waste of time to be completely surrounded by exam pressures and the like

3. Canadian things or things that surprised me in Canada

Canadian units of measurement can sometimes be confusing. For example, personal IDs like driver's licenses list height in centimeters (cm), but in everyday life, we typically express height in feet/inches (ft/in)

4. How did you come across Beyond and why did you decide to join the company?

Initially, I was looking for an IT company near my home.I never imagined I'd be hired by an IT company where I could actually use my Japanese!

⑤ What are some interesting, surprising, or good things you have noticed since joining the company?

1. The workplace atmosphere at Beyond is very good, andit's especially friendly to people with no prior experience.
2. Regarding the business trip system, colleagues from Japan come to Canada on business trips once every few months. Because of this,I get to meet new colleagues each time, which is very refreshing, interesting, and something I look forward to.
3. Companies that reimburse travel expenses are very rare in Canada.

① What kind of work did you do in your previous job?

I worked as a recruitment salesperson and recruitment consultant, and used an applicant management system to visualize recruitment status and propose improvements to business issues related to human resources

② What made you come to Canada?

Thinking, "You only live once!", I quit my job and came to Canada on a working holiday for a year, but before I knew it, it had been eight years!

3. Canadian things or things that surprised me in Canada

While strangers might suddenly strike up a conversation and be incredibly kind, Canada is also characterized by a certain, in a good way, lack of concern for others. In Japan, I used to worry about "dressing appropriately for my age," but now I wander around in what looks like pajamas. I
was also surprised by the abundance of wild squirrels, skunks, and raccoons! Squirrels, in particular, are everywhere; I've taken so many pictures I could probably make a squirrel photo book.

4. How did you come across Beyond and why did you decide to join the company?

I had the opportunity to meet Morita and Seiken, and that's what made me think, "I'd love to work under these two!"

⑤ What are some interesting, surprising, or good things you have noticed since joining the company?

I was surprised by how close I am to the president and my superiors! Everyone at Beyond is really friendly, and even though I'm shy, I feel comfortable working here.
What I find interesting is that we monitor our customers' servers 24/7 in both Japan and Canada. I imagine it must have been difficult to set up the system when the Canadian office was first established, but they've created a system where we can provide services in coordination between the two locations, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it!

summary

Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the interviews

I hope that those who read this blog will get at least a glimpse of what kind of company Beyond is, what kind of people work in our Canadian office, and what the atmosphere is like

Well then!
