[AWS] How does CloudFront cost compared to other CDNs?
This is Nakauchi from the technical sales department.
I think that for content that requires a large amount of transfer, a CDN (Content Delivery Network) is almost always used.
The largest CDN Akamai , but this time we will compare the CDNs of each cloud provider in order to compare it with Amazon CloudFront.
The only point of comparison is the price.
Incidentally, Akamai seems to be in charge of 15-30% of the world's Internet traffic. That's an incredible amount.
CDN price comparison table
~10TB | 10-50TB | 50-150TB | 150-500TB | 500~1PB | 1~5PB | Over 5PB | |

※IDC Frontier's content cache (CDN) is 9 yen/GB up to 100 TB and 6 yen/GB above 100 TB.
*The above prices are per 1GB per month.
AWS (Amazon Web Service)Amazon CloudFront
The cost per 1GB is $0.14 x 110 yen (exchange rate) = 15.4 yen.
If you use 10TB, the calculation will be 15.4 yen x 10,000 (GB) = 154,000 yen.
Up to 50TB is the same as CloudFront.
Considering only the price, it would be more advantageous to install CloudFront for over 50TB.
GCP (Google Cloud Platform) Google Cloud CDN
The calculation method is the same as AWS.
In the case of using 10TB, it is $0.09 x 110 yen (exchange) x 10,000 (GB) = 99,000 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
That's a profit of 55,000 yen.
Microsoft Azure
There is also a yen display.
You can choose between Verizon and Akamai for Azure CDN Standard (The price will not change.)
The pricing structure almost follows AWS.
In the case of using 10TB, it is $0.138 x 110 yen (exchange) x 10,000 (GB) = 151,800 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
It's a profit of 2,200 yen.
IIJ GIO Content Acceleration Service
The fee is a flat rate of 15 yen.
For 10TB, 15 yen x 10,000GB = 150,000. It's just like that.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
It's a profit of 4,000 yen.
IDCF Cloud Content Cache
Up to 100TB is 9 yen/GB, and beyond 100 TB it is 6 yen/GB.
If you use 10TB, it will cost 9 yen x 10,000GB = 90,000 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
That's a profit of 64,000 yen.
NIFTY Cloud CDN (Fastly)
Nifty's CDN uses an external service called Fastly
If you use 10TB, it will cost 21.33 yen x 10,000GB = 213,300 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
This is a loss of 59,300 yen.
GMO App Cloud CDN
I'm using Azure CDN.
Even if you calculate the price by 100 yen, GMO is cheaper. It's a mystery.
If you use 10TB, it will cost 13 yen x 10,000GB = 130,000 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
That's a profit of 24,000 yen.
IBM Bluemix CDN
The price is a flat rate of $0.12/GB.
If you use 10TB, it will cost $0.12 x 110 yen (exchange) x 10,000GB = 132,000 yen.
Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)
That's a profit of 22,000 yen.
summary
Only Nifty was more expensive than Amazon CloudFront.
The cheapest option was IDCF Cloud's content cache at 9 yen/GB.
This goes without saying, but even a difference of a few yen per GB can make a huge difference when it comes to tens or hundreds of TB.
This time I focused only on the price, but I think the options will vary depending on the purpose of use.
Also, CDN can only be used for static pages, not dynamic pages, so you must be careful when calculating transfer fees.
