[AWS] How does CloudFront cost compared to other CDNs?

GCP

This is Nakauchi from the technical sales department.

I think that for content that requires a large amount of transfer volume, CDN (Content Delivery Network) is almost always used

The largest CDN Akamai , but this time we will compare the CDNs of each cloud provider to compare it with Amazon CloudFront.

The only point of comparison is price

Incidentally, Akamai apparently controls 15-30% of the world's internet traffic, which is a massive amount

CDN Price Comparison Chart

 ~10TB 10-50TB 50-150TB 150-500TB 500 to 1PB  1 to 5PB   Over 5PB
AWS $0.140 $0.135 $0.12 $0.10 $0.08 $0.07 $0.06
GCP $0.09 $0.06 $0.06 $0.05 $0.05 $0.04 $0.04
Azure $0.138 $0.13 $0.12 $0.10 $0.08 $0.07 inquiry
IIJ 15 yen 15 yen 15 yen 15 yen 15 yen 15 yen 15 yen

nifty 21.33 yen 15.83 yen 13.50 yen 13.50 yen 13.50 yen 13.50 yen 13.50 yen
GMO 13.0 yen 12.0 yen 11.0 yen 9.0 yen inquiry inquiry inquiry
IBM $0.12 $0.12 $0.12 $0.12 $0.12 $0.12 $0.12

IDC Frontier's content cache (CDN) costs 9 yen/GB up to 100TB and 6 yen/GB above 100TB

*The above prices are per 1GB per month

AWS (Amazon Web Service) Amazon CloudFront

The cost per 1GB is $0.14 x 110 yen (exchange rate) = 15.4 yen

If you use 10TB, the calculation would be 15.4 yen x 10,000 (GB) = 154,000 yen

Up to 50TB, it's the same as CloudFront

Considering price alone, it is more cost-effective to use CloudFront for volumes over 50TB

GCP (Google Cloud Platform) Google Cloud CDN

The calculation method is the same as AWS

If you use 10TB, the cost is $0.09 x 110 yen (exchange rate) x 10,000 (GB) = 99,000 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

That's a savings of 55,000 yen

Microsoft Azure

There is also a yen display

Azure CDN Standard allows you to choose between Verizon and Akamai

The pricing structure is almost identical to AWS

If you use 10TB, the cost is $0.138 x 110 yen (exchange rate) x 10,000 (GB) = 151,800 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

You save 2,200 yen

IIJ GIO Content Acceleration Service

The fee is a flat 15 yen

For 10TB, it's 15 yen x 10,000GB = 150,000 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

You save 4,000 yen

IDCF Cloud Content Cache

Up to 100TB it is 9 yen/GB, and anything over 100TB is 6 yen/GB

If you use 10TB, it will cost 9 yen x 10,000GB = 90,000 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

That's a savings of 64,000 yen

NIFTY Cloud CDN (Fastly)

Nifty's CDN uses an external service called Fastly

If you use 10TB, the cost will be 21.33 yen x 10,000GB = 213,300 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

The loss is 59,300 yen

GMO Appli Cloud CDN

I use Azure CDN

Even if you calculate the price at 100 yen, GMO is a better deal. It's a mystery

If you use 10TB, it will cost 13 yen x 10,000GB = 130,000 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

You save 24,000 yen

IBM Bluemix CDN

The fee is a flat rate of $0.12/GB

If you use 10TB, the cost would be $0.12 x 110 yen (exchange rate) x 10,000GB = 132,000 yen

Compared to AWS (when using 10TB)

That's a savings of 22,000 yen

summary

Only Nifty was more expensive than Amazon CloudFront

The cheapest option was IDCF Cloud's content cache at 9 yen/GB

It goes without saying, but even a difference of just a few yen per GB makes a significant difference when it comes to tens or hundreds of TB

This time we focused only on the price, but I think your options will vary depending on your intended use

Also, CDNs can only be used for static pages, not dynamic pages, so you need to be careful when calculating transfer fees

Of course we offer CDN support, but if you need server support other than CDN, please contact us!!
