[Work style reform] “Siesta system” has started!

Hello, this is Sakashita from Beyond.

Our management team works to create a comfortable working environment for our employees and ensure that their work is not disrupted

This time, we would like to introduce one of our internal systems!

"Siesta System" has been launched

The early afternoon is the time when you've had lunch, your stomach is full, and you start to feel incredibly sleepy

If I try to resist sleepiness, I end up feeling even more sleepy, and it's hard to get any work done..

I think everyone has had that experience..

For times like these, our company has introduced a siesta system

What is the Siesta System?

"Siesta" is a Spanish word that refers to the period from around noon until early evening

The siesta is a Spanish custom of taking a lunch break between 1 and 4 pm

In short, it's a nap

Are humans hardwired to take naps?

Once I finish my lunch break and resume work in the afternoon, I can't help but feel sleepy..

This is actually unrelated to diet, but is the result of the body clock that humans are born with

It is one of the cycles that is inherent in humans

Apparently, we are naturally wired to sleep between 1pm and 2pm!

The surprising hidden benefits of napping!

Fatigue recovery

A good nap is said to have the same effect as a good night's sleep

about three times more effective than normal sleep

Improved memory

When comparing the learning effects of the group that took a nap and the group that did not,

The results showed that the group that took a nap performed better

It is said that while you sleep, your brain processes the information you received while awake

It is speculated that taking a nap may have had this effect

Lowers the risk of heart disease

When you don't get enough sleep, your blood pressure rises, your autonomic nervous system becomes unbalanced, and your heart is put under strain

Taking a nap can help you make up for lack of sleep and reduce your risk of heart disease!

It relieves stress

Your brain is working at full capacity after concentrating on work in the morning, and fatigue is building up

Sleeping allows your brain to rest and feel refreshed

Improved work performance

As a result of the above effects, your afternoon work will become more efficient and you will be able to do higher quality work!

It has so many different effects!

You're so sleepy you can't get any work done... At times like these, it seems like it's better to just go to sleep rather than fighting the urge to sleep!

There is also a method of nap called a "power nap" that allows you to take a short nap and be energized for your afternoon work

What is a "power nap"? It's quick and effective!

Power naps are a sleep technique advocated by James Maas, a social psychologist at Cornell University in the United States

This means that it can help you recover from fatigue in a short amount of time and also has the effect of activating brain function

This is a short nap method that generally lasts about 15 to 30 minutes

Beyond's siesta system is 15 minutes once a day, so this power nap method is suitable

How to take an effective power nap

◆ Sleeping leaning back in a chair or with your head on a desk

If you lie down and fall asleep, you may find it difficult to wake up later

You fall into a deep sleep and then wake up feeling unwell

◆ Set an alarm

Sleeping too much can have the opposite effect

Since you wake up before your brain has transitioned into deep sleep, the advantage is that your brain can function actively immediately after waking up

Even just 15 minutes of sleep can improve your memory and concentration, and help prevent drowsiness for 2 to 4 hours

◆ Have a cup of coffee before your nap!

It is recommended to drink a caffeinated beverage such as coffee 15 minutes before going to sleep

Caffeine wakes up your brain 20 to 30 minutes after consuming a caffeinated beverage

Drinking a cup of coffee 15 minutes before sleep is not just about the alarm on your phone

You're essentially setting a chemical alarm in your body!

summary

Taking a siesta to take a nap and refresh yourself not only improves work efficiency and productivity, but also

You can approach your work in a healthy and happy manner

If you feel sleepy but can't fall asleep, just closing your eyes for five minutes can have a restful effect, so please give it a try

At Beyond, we will continue to utilize the siesta system to improve our work performance and work even harder!
