Hello.
My name is Teraoka and I am an infrastructure engineer.
Recently, I have been frequently invited to speak at study groups and seminars outside the company.
I see articles on the internet that say, ``If you're an engineer, you should take the stage!'' and
I've come to think, ``It's better to take the stage because you're an engineer!''
This time, without including technical elements,
I would like to summarize what I learned from actually speaking on stage, starting from ``posing a problem to myself'' that led me to speak on stage.
Events attended so far
Where did you first appear? So I have summarized it below.
Maybe there is one that you have actually participated in.
The materials used during the presentation are summarized on the speakerdeck, so please take a look!

[Osaka] Seminar sponsored by SB Cloud Co., Ltd. “Cloud Utilization Seminar for Practicing Inbound Marketing for Chinese Visitors to Japan”
At a seminar hosted by
SB Cloud, we talked about the construction example of Edison operated by our company
At Edison, we use
Alibaba Cloud , and in the session during the seminar, we explained cloud infrastructure and included technical discussions.
[Osaka] Alibaba Cloud in Osaka #3
At the Alibaba Cloud user meeting, introduced a service called
CloudMonitor the functions that I found useful from an MSP's perspective.
As an MSP, server operation is the most important thing, so
I would like to actively use this type of service!

Practitioners talk about real multi-cloud ~AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud~
We also visited an event hosted by Oracle Japan Co., Ltd.!
The content of the presentation was with "multi-cloud" in mind, and
I talked about how to connect to an Autonomous Database from an AWS EC2 instance as a multi-cloud environment that utilizes Oracle Cloud 's Autonomous Database
The materials used here are also posted on SpeakerDeck, and this is the one with the most views (the response is amazing!)

Mackerel UG Kansai Branch Meetup #1
This was the first event since the launch of the Kansai branch of
Mackerel I participated in the LT slot, but you can also Terraform I introduced that.

[Osaka] Alibaba Cloud in Osaka #4 “First time in Namba” “DataV hands-on”
It was my second time to appear at the Alibaba Cloud user meeting!
This time, we focused entirely on Terraform, and introduced an example of using Terraform on Alibaba Cloud.

[Kyoto] GCPUG Kyoto #2 [GCP]
It was my first time speaking at a GCP user meeting!
The content is containers and Kubernetes, and GCP has a service called Google Kubernetes Engine
During his presentation, he introduced a vulnerability diagnosis server built by combining Vuls

[Osaka] GCPUG Osaka #10 ~ Multi-Cloud Day ~ [3 cloud co-host]
It was a very valuable event co-hosted by 3 clouds (GCP/Alibaba Cloud/Oracle Cloud)!
Since we are co-hosting the event with 3 clouds, it will inevitably be a multi-cloud topic, but since Terraform was compatible with everything,
I would like to introduce how to build infrastructure using 3 clouds with Terraform, including actual code. Ta.

In fact, it was also published in the media.
Although the number of events is still small, I have been on stage this many times.
In particular, the "Real Multicloud Practitioners Talk About AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud" sponsored by Oracle Japan Co., Ltd.
received a great response, as it included an interview with Cloud Watch.
I will continue to be on stage, so please say hello when I see you!
posing problems to oneself
The first time I appeared on stage was around November 2018.
Before that, I had never done it or wanted to do it.
At that time, more than two years had passed since I joined the company as a new graduate, and I was getting used to the job, but
it was also a time when I was reconsidering myself, and in the process, I raised several issues.
I've gotten used to my job, in both good and bad ways.
When I first joined the company, I struggled to learn the work, but
after more than two years, the things I was able to do and the things I was entrusted with increased,
and I gradually became able to work at my own pace. .
That's a good thing, but on the other hand, I became satisfied with my current situation and stopped taking on new challenges and efforts, which meant
I couldn't maintain my passion and motivation for work.
There is no particular stimulation, and I just do the work given to me.
Before I knew it, my work had changed from "fun" to "boring."
Anxiety about one's future career
When I lost motivation to work, I immediately started to feel anxious about my future career.
The career I am talking about here does not mean evaluation or promotion within the company, but rather
the ``individual career'' of what you want to do and achieve in the future.
This is because there is a belief that ``a career is not something that is left to a company, but something that you build up through your own actions.''
I felt a gap between my lack of motivation and the career I had envisioned, and
that naturally turned into anxiety, wondering, ``Will I be okay with this?''
How I started speaking on stage
There is no point in just raising problems and nothing will change.
I also believe that growth as a member of society is impossible without self-transformation.
I decided that I had to change and decided to take action.
At our company, we have a one-on-one meeting with my superior every six months, and I expressed my desire to speak on stage outside the company.
I said, ``I've never done it before, but I'm sure it will be needed in the future,'' and the
process from there until the opportunity came along was very quick, which is amazing!
This is what led me to speak on stage, and I have a few things in mind.
be aware of the output
Of course inputting information is important, but
just memorizing it as knowledge will not allow you to put it into action in an emergency.
Output is ``organizing the input information and putting it into a usable state,'' so
when I give a presentation, I try to keep this in mind when creating materials.
to continue
There is a saying, "Continuity is power," and I think that's really true.
You can only learn something by continuing to do it, and if you stop halfway, you will forget it.
Currently, I only appear on stage once a month, but I would like to continue to do so at a faster pace in the future.
Connecting to career
Regarding my career direction, I am aiming to become a "technical evangelist."
In that case, presentations at events etc. become the core of my work, so
I am able to eliminate the gap between my current situation and my envisioned career.
What I gained from attending the stage
Expanded “network of people” outside the company
I have a chance to talk to people within the company every time I come to work, but
I don't have a chance to talk to people outside the company who work in the same industry unless I go out of my way to connect with them.
Work is not something that can be achieved by yourself or your company alone; it depends on the other person, so
I think you should especially value your relationships with other people and other companies.
on stage allows you to expand your network of people, and
depending on the response, you may even get people to connect with you, so I
think it's perfect for increasing your connections.
I was able to increase my market value
The more connections you have, the more people you can get to know about yourself.
No matter how great your technique or skill is, it's meaningless if you don't remember it.
In my case, I try to have people remember me by my Twitter account name/icon image/nickname.
Lately, I've been getting a lot of people calling me by my nickname "Nezumi-san-ya."
I'm happy because people like and retweet my materials and spread the word!
My speaking/conveying skills have improved significantly.
Isn't this the biggest advantage?
After all, you will be speaking in front of a large number of people, so your speaking and conveying skills will improve.
I used to be the type of person who didn't like to talk, but
lately I've been receiving comments like ``You're calm'' and ``You're stable,'' so I
've been able to continue speaking on stage. I feel that there is.
This will also be useful for work other than speaking on stage.
Whether it's with internal members or external customers, it's unlikely that you won't talk at all at work.
Speaking/communicating is the basis of communication, and
if you are good at this, your impression of others will change completely.
from now on
Next month (July) I will be speaking in Osaka and Tokyo respectively!
Cloud Native Kansai #04
[Event appearance] Engineer Teraoka will be on stage at “Cloud Native Kansai #04”
Google Cloud Next '19 in Tokyo
If you have time, please come and see it! !
