[System Development] What the Beyond Development Department values [Tomotsuku]

Hello

. Our team's season has ended prematurely, the draft meeting I was looking forward to is also over, and
now there's nothing left to do but watch the free agent movements.

Even though I felt like a hollow shell, I was asked to write a blog, so I decided to do so for the first time in a long time

Beyond's management philosophy isTo create and support each other.""
(Abbreviated as"Tomotsuku")

Corporate philosophy

https://beyondjapan.com/company/philosophy

within Beyonda militant groupwithin our Systems Development Department, which is considered"Tomotsuku", I'd like to write about the stance of

*The content is purely my personal opinion

[Basic principle] Make it properly

Thanks to you, we have received consultations on a wide variety of topics

The consultations we receive range from those where the client has a clear idea of what they want to do to those that are very vague, or even seem like grand dreams.
The level of literacy of our clients also varies greatly.

As professionals, once we've decided to do something, we'll give it our all.

Once the system is complete, we communicate closely with our customers to ensure that it doesn't end up being difficult to use, and we approach development by thinking not just from the perspective of an engineer but also from the perspective of the system's user

Unlike the countless so-called development companies out there,to remain a "development team that can actually create things,"our engineers strive every day

Oh, I'm also writing this for our in-house engineers

To achieve this, we consider the following three points to be important

Would you like to work with me?

First and foremost, what I consider important iswhether we can communicate on equal footing.

We are not a subcontractor. We understand that you have a development need, but for some reason you cannot do it yourself, and that's why you've consulted with us.

As professionals, we discuss with our clients what is necessary to bring the project to fruition on an equal footing, and in return, we take responsibility for completing the project. Naturally, we take pride in this

We will clearly explain what we can and cannot do. From there, we will be able to discuss on an equal footing how far we can both compromise and where we can land. Unless we can do so, nothing will solidify

If one party continues to feel uncomfortable or uneasy, the project will inevitably proceed.
Projects that don't go well oftenkind of communication discordsuffer fromwe place great importance on whether the client is someone we can communicate with effectively.

, not only with our clients who entrust us with their work, but also with our partner companies who sometimes assist us with developmentWe believe in treating everyone as equals

I believe that when it comes to creating something good, there's no such thing as one being superior or inferior to the other.
I think it's essential that everyone involved in a project is on equal footing in order to create something truly good.

Rather than focusing on the size or brand recognition of a company,I believe it's simply about whether we want to work together; it all starts with the people involved.

In recent years, many meetings have been held online, but we would like to meet in person at least once if possible so that we can get to know each other better

I don't do work just to get money

I don't participate in the money game

Unless there's a special reason, we generally don't undersell our technology.
Of course, we don't add exorbitant profits or take referral fees without actually doing any development work.

If you're only looking for a price, feel free to look elsewhere

We also take responsibility for our development, so we ask that companies working with us on development be prepared to pay the necessary amount

There are very few jobs that we would want to do simply to meet a minimum price.
As professionals, wewant to approach our work with pride. We don't have the mindset of doing anything for money.

As a company that primarily focuses on contract development, we cannot survive without receiving work requests from our clients.
However,we believe that hiring and training engineers is just as challenging, if not more so.

I think it's very important that engineers are convinced of the project

Time, money, and labor are traded off

For example, it takes time to prepare an estimate

Occasionally, people ask for quotes by tomorrow or by the end of the week, butfrankly, that's impossible. We cannot guarantee accuracy.

In order to realize what the customer is thinking, the engineers will carefully consider various aspects, build up the functions, and provide estimates for the man-hours required (as they cannot do anything randomly)

I've been in sales for many years, so I think I have a general understanding of this, but I don't think you'll usually find yourself in a situation where you need a quote today or tomorrow

Surely they understand that an estimate is needed at least a week in advance. I
don't understand why they didn't consult me at that point. Ithink, "Try puttingyourself in their shoes."

If absolutely necessary, we can provide an estimate.
When providing an estimate, we will use that time to finalize any unresolved aspects during the requirements definition process.

Once we have a clear understanding of the functions that need to be created, we confirm and reach an agreement with each other to ensure there are no discrepancies in what we want to do, and then we create another estimate

If the deadline and budget are met at this point, there is no problem, but if it exceeds expectations, you will need to consider cutting out functions or carrying them over to the next phase

In exchange for giving up something, we also need the customer to give us something

In our case, the "All-inclusive campaign for the same price" is not a service that we offer on a regular basis

Of course, for strategically important projects or for valued clients, we may go to great lengths to cooperate, but fundamentally, wewhat we can and cannot do will depend on what we prioritize, and this will create a trade-offbelieve that

It's easy to say, "I'll do my best, I'll do anything,"
but I think it's worse for both of us if, after we start and see what happens, we realize, "Actually, it's impossible."

What engineers aim for

I've been writing in a very arrogant manner up to this point, but I'm not an engineer. It's the engineers who actually turn customer requests into reality

What I have written today is more about my stance as a salesperson protecting our in-house engineers

We believe that if our engineers can work positively, it will lead to positive development for our customers

As a non-engineer, I see them as wizards who can create systems that don't exist yet

To properly bring our customers' requeststo life, we need to master the correct way to use magic.

First and foremost,a solid foundation of technical skillsthat knowledgestrong communication skills to conveyandempathy to understand things from the other person's perspectiveare essential.

Sometimes, instead of simply following the customer's orders, I need to be able to express my opinion clearly as a professional.
To do that,it's necessary to acquire the necessary knowledge and experience myselfI believe

If you are reluctant to make the effort and choose the easy option, we will continue to provide strict guidance from time to time

We want you to not only be protected, but also to develop the skills to truly engage with our clients as a professional engineer.
This is one of those trade-offs.

our engineersto strive to become engineers who can succeed anywhere.

Instead of being told what to do,we take responsibility for the services we are involved in and create and nurture them together with our customers.

This is the direction that the engineers in the Beyond Development Department are aiming for, and we believe that they will become engineers who can be successful anywhere

I want to create an environment where these magicians can freely and comfortably demonstrate their abilities

[Summary] In other words, this is what

I've written quite a bit with strong emphasis, butthe Beyond Development Department, as professionals, intends to create products while staying close to our customers.

● We develop systems that are actually usable once completed.
Development is not the end; we continue to nurture the system together, including refining it after release.

● An environment where engineers can work proactively, where
they take pride in the services they develop, just as much as they do in the services they develop, rather than simply doing assigned tasks.

If we can maintain a good relationship up to this point, the service will start to run smoothly

result,

● Receive a price that is acceptable to both parties

I mean"creating and supporting each other."This is what

I've written this in a rather blunt style.
This is the stance our company takes, and if you think it's a good one, we welcome inquiries about system development (lol).
