[Employee Interview] How my role has changed and what I've learned about my work

Hello. This is Miyoshi from the recruitment team.
This time, I interviewed three employees who are working as sub-leaders.

As your role changes while you're working on your daily tasks, you gradually find yourself looking at your work from a different perspective.
The three people we interviewed this time are all members who, while gaining experience in their respective fields, have increasingly had opportunities to interact with their teams and junior colleagues in their sub-leader roles.

Amidst all of this, we asked about the changes in their approach to work, their interactions with junior colleagues, and their future goals.
We hope this will give those considering joining our company a glimpse into the actual career paths and work styles they can expect.

Hayashi-san, System Solutions Department

They utilize the geography and time differences of their overseas locations to provide 24/7 manned monitoring to ensure the stable operation of their cloud servers.

① Has your approach to work changed since becoming a sub-leader?

Since becoming a sub-leader, I've also taken on the responsibility of managing team members. When I was just a player, I focused mainly on improving my own skills and gaining experience, but now I'm more conscious of managing members' tasks and achieving team goals

I've found myself thinking more about "how to achieve results as a team" rather than just as an individual . Since I'm also involved in evaluating team members, I feel a greater sense of responsibility than before. Another significant shift is from a "me and the customer" perspective to a "delivering value to the customer as a team" perspective. I also have more opportunities to communicate what I value in customer service to my team members in my own words.

To be honest, I do feel pressure at times, but I try to maintain my condition by sticking to my daily routine of exercise, diet, rest, and studying

② Is there anything you keep in mind when working with junior colleagues?

There are two main things.
First, creating an environment where members can easily perform at their best. I believe that the atmosphere of the team has a significant impact on results, so I value creating an atmosphere where people feel comfortable expressing their opinions.

I don't mean a "laid-back atmosphere," but rather a state where the barriers to communication are low and communication is smooth. To achieve this, I try to create an environment where people feel comfortable talking, such as not dismissing things outright or initiating conversations myself. Also, in some fields, junior colleagues may be more knowledgeable than I am, so I avoid speaking solely based on my position

The second thingto explain things until they fully understand. Having experience in charge of training new employees, I've become more aware of the points where people tend to stumble. I also try to explain even specialized content in the simplest terms possible.

③ What are some of the challenges and goals you would like to pursue in the future?

First, I want to develop the skills to train my juniors into full-fledged engineers . Right now, I still lack technical skills and experience, so I want to improve my fundamental abilities by taking on projects with challenging operational design and by putting what I've learned into practice.

Also, with the increasing use of AI for automation these days, I'd like to take advantage of that trend as well. I want to be able to properly organize the challenges on-site, identify the bottlenecks, and propose solutions that include tool selection and operational methods

Ultimately,to reduce unnecessary work and create a situation where we can use more resources to provide value to our customers, which is what we should be doing.

① Has your approach to work changed since becoming a sub-leader?

Because the team's structure is somewhat unique, I honestly don't feel like my role has changed drastically.
However, since becoming sub-leader,"how to combine each person's strengths to function as a team." Also, I think another change is that I've started to look at my own position and strengths a little more objectively.

Rather than a dramatic, visible change, it's more accurate to say that we now have more opportunities to consider not just individual performance, but also "how we function as a team."

② What do you value most when working as a team?

When working as a team, there are several things I keep in mind, but overall, they are "making the most of our differences," "not losing sight of our goals," and "making sure to express our gratitude."

Differences in thinking and methods are bound to arise, but rather than rejecting them, I try to think about "how we can combine them to make it work."Also, when you're swamped with work, it's easy to get caught up in what's right in front of you, so I make sure to occasionally take a step back and remember what the team is aiming for.

Also, I try to express my gratitude in words as much as possible. I make it a point to say "thank you" even for small things

③ What are some of the challenges and goals you would like to pursue in the future?

want to create a system that allows us to manage the entire process, from increasing brand awareness to lead generation and branding, in a more strategic way. My goal is to reach even more people with Beyond's technological capabilities and the appeal of its services.

I want to do more than just broadcast information; I want to be able to proactively promote our services after clearly defining "what problems we can solve."
Ultimately, I hope to increase the number of companies that feel, "Beyond's services have been a great help."

Kitada-san, Human Resources Department

The Human Resources Department, where Ms. Kitada works, responsible for creating a safe and secure working environment for employees, as well as for recruitment and training.
Within this department, Ms. Kitada plays a key role in education, handling a wide range of tasks including new employee training, filming and editing videos for educational programs, and creating training materials. She also focuses on content creation to provide better learning opportunities.

Name: Shin Kitada
Occupation: Education Specialist (Former Infrastructure Engineer)
Department: Human Resources
Hobbies: Music (Live performances, composing, etc.)

① Has your approach to work changed since becoming a sub-leader?

My approach to work hasn't really changed much. Even though my position has changed, I want to continue to maintain the same attitude towards work

However,my "perspective" on things has changed compared to before. Since becoming a sub-leader, I've become more conscious of taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, rather than making judgments based solely on my own viewpoint.
For example, when making a decision, I now consider not only my own opinion, but also how it looks to others and what is best for the team and organization before reaching a conclusion. This broadening of my perspective is perhaps the biggest change since becoming a sub-leader.

② Is there anything you keep in mind when working with junior colleagues?

What I value most when interacting with my juniors"treating them as equals.
Whether in training sessions or in daily work, I want to be the kind of person they would have been happy to have as a senior when they were younger.

However, I'm not doing anything particularly special. I'm simply giving back to my juniors what my respected seniors have done for me (laughs). That
's why, when a junior comes to me for advice, I make sure to listen carefully to what they have to say. On top of that, I work with them, hoping that my own experience can be of some help.

③ What are some of the challenges and goals you would like to pursue in the future?

My goal going forward is to further enhance the company's training system as part of the Education Department . To achieve this, I believe it's essential that I myself continue to learn. As someone in a position to teach others, I want to maintain a learning attitude. Furthermore, by improving the company's training system, we can utilize the knowledge and know-how gained there in " SERVER CAMP ," the educational service our company provides

My personal challenge, and the major goal that the Education Department aims to achieve, is to give back to the outside world what I've learned within the company, and to create a better educational environment both inside and outside the organization.

After the interview

The three people we interviewed each have different jobs and roles, but what they all had in common was that they "have come to think not only about their own growth, but also about the growth of their team and those around them."

It was impressive to see how taking on the role of sub-leader has heightened their awareness of not only individual achievements but also achieving results as a team and supporting the growth of their juniors. Furthermore, it was clear that each of them is not content with the status quo, but continues to challenge themselves towards their next goals while learning new technologies and knowledge

At Beyond, each individual can grow and expand their career through their daily work and various experiences

We hope this interview will give you some insight into what it's like to work and what your career path will be like after joining the company
