[Employee Interview] How my perspective has changed a little since starting my second year

table of contents
Hello. This is Miyoshi from the recruitment team.
This time, I interviewed three employees who are now in their second year with the company.
The first year after joining the company is a continuous series of environmental changes and new challenges.
We asked everyone about their experiences and how they grew during that time.
I hope this will give those considering joining our company a clearer picture of what it's like to work here
Employee 1 (Yada-san, System Solutions Department)
The System Solutions Department, to which Yada belongs, responsible for everything from building cloud servers to ensuring their stable operation.
They utilize the geography and time differences of their overseas locations to provide 24/7 manned monitoring to ensure the stable operation of their cloud servers.
Name: Yada
Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer
Department: System Solutions Division
Hobbies: Watching movies and anime, building custom PCs

The gap I felt before joining the company and after joining the company
I graduated from a university specializing in information technology and joined Beyond, but before joining, I had this image of engineers as "people who work silently and alone."
But when I actually joined, it was completely different in a good way. Beyond's engineers are friendly and talkative when it comes to consulting with each other, but they also concentrate hard when it's time to work, so I felt there was a good balance.
than I expected, andI really realized after joining that it's a
The most difficult thing in my first year and how I overcame it
I think the most challenging aspect was definitely the technical skills. When I was first assigned to the team, I didn't really understand how to proceed with the work, and I didn't fully grasp commands or server mechanisms, so I honestly struggled quite a bit. What I kept in mind during that time was to"just try it" and "ask questions immediately if I didn't understand something." At first, I was hesitant, but I realized that I wouldn't make any progress if I didn't ask questions, so I started to ask questions proactively.
As I increased the number of times I got my hands dirty, I gradually became able to do more and more things, and I think it was a big help that I started having more and more moments where I thought, "Oh, I've done this before."

Growth I have experienced over the past year
where I've grown this past year isI've become able to apply knowledge, not just use it directlyI think the biggest area
だ分からないことも多いんですけど、「AよりBのほうがいいんじゃないか」とか、「こうしたらもっと効率良くなるんじゃないか」みたいに、自分なりに考えられるようになってきました。
At first, I was just barely able to do what I was told, but now I think I'm gradually gaining the capacity to express my own opinions and think of ways to improve things.
Employee #2 (Mr. Om, Systems Development Department)
The Systems Development Department, where Mr. Om works, responsible for contract development, fulfilling clients' requests for specific products. Their work primarily involves developing the backend systems used by clients, requiring them to leverage their technical skills to contribute. Another key advantage is that they don't work on-site at client locations, allowing them to work stably within the company.

The gap I felt before joining the company and after joining the company
Since I joined the company with no experience or knowledge, to be honest, I imagined that after joining, I would be staring at a black screen and writing code all day long (laughs).
But in reality, there was a lot more time spent writing and communicating than I expected, such as summarizing research reports and putting specifications into words before implementation.
While organizing specifications and putting implementation details into words,a very linguistic jobI realized that
The most difficult thing in my first year and how I overcame it
Since I started with zero knowledge, every day was a battle against unfamiliar vocabulary, especially until I grasped the basic concepts of networking and programming. The most difficult part wasverbalizing what I didn't understand and communicating it to my seniors, and there were many times when they had to understand my intentions. To overcome this, I made a conscious effort to use my own time to resolve each question one by one. Looking back now, I regret that if I had learned more about the overall picture of IT before joining the company, I might have been able to overcome the language barrier on the job more smoothly.

Growth I have experienced over the past year
The biggest area of growth I feel I've achieved this past yeardeveloping the ability to structure things and think logically. Originally, I was a more intuitive person who grasped things through feeling, so when I first joined the company, I couldn't explain what I wanted to do or my questions in a logical way, and there were many times when my seniors had to guess my intentions. Even now, a year later, there are still moments when I'm completely absorbed in the task at hand, but compared to before, I've become able to take a step back and take a broader view of things like "how this fix will affect things" or "what is the root cause of the bug?". Being able to take a step-by-step process of "A leads to B" and communicate my thoughts in logical steps is a big improvement for someone like me who used to be more intuitive. I feel that the logical thinking I've built this past year is a greater growth for me than my programming skills. In my second year and beyond, I plan to cherish that foundation while further pursuing my technical skills.
Employee #3 (Ringo-san, Innovation Strategy Department)
The Innovation Strategy Department, to which Ringo belongs, responsible for the company's own service business and company-wide marketing.
It consists of two sections, the "Web Services Section" and the "Marketing Section," and Ringo is in the Web Services Section, where she is in charge of planning, developing, and operating the company's services.
Name: Ringo
Occupation: Development Engineer
Department: Innovation Strategy Department
Hobbies: Photography, attending live concerts, vintage clothing

The gap between what I felt before joining the company and what I felt after joining
The biggest positive surprise wasrealizing that "even those with a humanities background can thrive in this environment." Before joining the company, I had a strong image of engineers being science and engineering graduates, and I was worried about whether I could handle it.
But once I actually started working, I found that I had more opportunities to organize what I wanted to do into writing and to compile researched information into documentation, rather than just writing code. Ithat "thinking skills" and "the ability to articulate" are more important than I had thought. These aspects overlap with my strengths, and I think that contributes to how easy it is to work here.
Also, the atmosphere at work was a little different from what I imagined. Rather than being constantly noisy, there's a good balance between time for concentration and time for communication, and I felt it was an environment where I could work calmly.
The most difficult thing in my first year and how I overcame it
The most challenging parttask management. When working on multiple tasks simultaneously, I initially struggled quite a bit with how to divide the work and how long each task would take.
So, I focused on breaking down tasks into as many small parts as possible. I made sure to organize everything to include not only implementation but also research and reading documents, so that "what needs to be done now" would naturally become clear. As I did this, it became easier to prioritize. As
I went along, I also started reflecting on what didn't go well, and I think I gradually became aware of my weaknesses and habits in estimating tasks.
Growth I have experienced over the past year
I think the biggest area of growth for me isbeing able to think and act independently. At first, I was so focused on just completing the tasks I was given that I didn't have much time to articulate my own thoughts.
But as I continued working and my understanding of the code deepened, I gradually started to think things like, "Maybe it would be better to do it this way," or "From a user's perspective, this might be easier to use." I've become particularlyof usabilityconscious
Lately, I've been able to work on designs and tasks while imagining "how I would feel if I were the user," and I think it's a big change that I can now consider not only how to create something, but also how to make it easy to use. However, there are still times when I'm completely overwhelmed with my own work, so in the future, I'd like to be able to look around more and consider the team as a whole.
