Finding time to write a blog, deciding on a blog theme...there are many challenges to writing one blog
the blog master, finds time to write blog posts and how he manages to work efficientlyKawa-san from the System Solutions Department,we'll get to know
Komatsu
Thank you Kawa-san!
river
Thank you~
Daily work content
The blog master is also a member of the System Solutions Department, and is an engineer who handles server operation and maintenance on a daily basis
Komatsu
Please tell us about your daily work
river
Broadly speaking, there are four main tasks that I perform on a daily basis
river
The first taskresponding to customer inquiries, creating procedure manuals, and performing the actual work.
This is my main job, so I spend about 80% of my time on this.
Komatsu
So that's the most common task you perform as an infrastructure engineer
river
The secondhandling server construction projects.
Depending on the timing, I may be assigned to server construction projects and therefore perform that work.
river
The third area ofwork is business process improvement.
Since some tasks in server operation, maintenance, and monitoring are routine, I'm exploring ways to automate and improve those processes. I've
even created a system to automatically remind me of tasks with approaching deadlines.
Komatsu
It's amazing that they thought about it and made it..
river
The fourthsupporting team tasks and team members.
Since we work as a team, we also handle team tasks and support new recruits.
river
The emphasis on each task varies from day to day, but I do these four things on a daily basis.
As for the blog, I work on it little by little whenever I have some free time and feel like it!
Komatsu
He's a genius at hard work. I'll follow his example
What is important when working as an infrastructure engineer?
Komatsu
Please tell us what you value in your daily work as an infrastructure engineer
river
In particular, we are conscious of not ending things on the surface
Komatsu
What do you mean by on the surface?
river
When an alert sounds due to a problem on a customer's server, we make sure not to simply report the result.
Anyone can do that, and we don't think that's what our customers truly want.
river
Of course, not everything can be understood or solved immediately, but I always try to focus on the fundamental aspects, such as "why this alert is sounding" or "why a problem is occurring," and "to constantly dig deeper."
This may be influenced by my personality, as I enjoy thinking about why things work the way they do and what the underlying structure is.
Komatsu
Although our work is different, I am also conscious of pursuing the why, and after listening to Mr. Kawa's talk, I felt that I wanted to be more conscious of this
What I try to do to work efficiently
I myself have often felt that blog masters are people who work efficiently, so this was something that I was very interested in
Komatsu
What are some things you keep in mind when working efficiently?
river
I hadn't really thought about it much, so I took this opportunity to organize my thoughts!
Komatsu
thank you!
river
Broadly speaking, there are five things to keep in mind:
river
The first pointis to have a manageable amount of tasks.
While various tasks arise daily in the course of work, I believe it's important to have an amount of tasks that you can control.
Komatsu
This is surprisingly difficult
river
If I take on too much and exceed my capacity, I'll end up unable to keep up with the work, which will cause trouble not only for the clients but also for my team members.
Therefore, I make sure to carefully consider how much work I can handle before taking on tasks.
river
The second pointto rely on and ask others for help.
There are countless things that you can't figure out on your own. In terms of technology, engineers each have different areas of expertise and knowledge, so when you can't solve something on your own, it's important to rely on team members who are in the area of expertise and borrow their knowledge.
Komatsu
So it's about helping each other. Do people ever ask you about your areas of expertise?
river
It does happen sometimes (laughs). If there are any members who are having trouble with something I know a lot about, I would like to help them
river
The third stepto organize and prioritize tasks.
By organizing your tasks, you can work backward and create a schedule that determines what needs to be done by what time each day.
Komatsu
I think everyone is doing this consciously, but I feel like there are times when people don't actually do it
river
As I mentally map out tasks, I designate them as my own, anticipating that team members will provide support. I
in my schedule, as unexpected tasks often come upblank spacemake sure to
Komatsu
I'd love to peek inside Kawa-san's head!
river
The fourth pointto take proper breaks.
Taking breaks is important for refreshing my mind. If I lose focus, my productivity won't increase, so I try to take breaks at appropriate intervals.
Also, Beyonda siesta system, so I sometimes use that system to take a short nap and clear my head.
Komatsu
Kawa-san isn't the only one I see sleeping in the break room; I sometimes see other engineers sleeping
river
The fifth pointto communicate in shared spaces.
Since there are shared spaces where we can take breaks, I make a conscious effort to talk to someone during short breaks.
Komatsu
I certainly have the impression that you communicate with a variety of people. So you were doing this on purpose!
river
Well, yes (laughs). Often, problems that were stuck are resolved, or solutions become clear, through casual conversation.
That's why I make a conscious effort to communicate with team members, not just work silently on my own.
river
Just like the rubber duck effect, talking to a third party can often give you ideas and solve problems, so I think communication is important at Beyond
Komatsu
Most of the things I learned were ones I could be aware of starting today. I would like to think about them again and be mindful of them as I go about my work
About Beyond Blog
How do you decide what to blog about?
Komatsu
Deciding on a blog theme must be difficult, so how do you decide on a theme each month?
river
It's not something I've thought about in particular, it's just a spontaneous idea!
Komatsu
Is that just a random idea?!
river
Yes! When it comes to topics other than technology, rather than thinking hard about writing a blog post, I often come up with ideas for things I like or when I'm relaxing
river
Regarding technical topics, I try to write about things I learned while dealing with customers that I didn't know before and that I think others might find useful.
As I work every day, I encounter things I don't know, so I might never run out of topics.
Komatsu
You are definitely a blog master
river
I write a blog every day to share the information I've researched and learned, in the hope that it will be useful to someone (whether inside or outside the company) who may be in the same situation as me
The secret to mass-producing blogs
Komatsu
Kawa-san, you write a blog every month, but is there any reason why you are able to mass-produce it?
river
You may be constantly on the lookout for interesting topics
river
As mentioned above, I often choose topics that I don't understand, but I alsoHatena Bookmarkfrequently check
Since we are an engineering company, I hope that by taking up new or interesting technologies as topics, we can create excitement within the company.
Komatsu
That's a great way of thinking! It's true that if there's an interesting technology, people will respond
river
Rather than writing about mainstream topics, I focus on more niche but interesting topics, and I write blogs on a variety of topics in the hope that by reaching or helping just one person, I can make the world a little bit easier
Komatsu
I feel like I got a glimpse into Kawa-san's mind. Thank you very much!
river
Thank you very much
summary
Through this interview, I discovered and learned many new things even from members who I communicate with on a regular basis, and it was very helpful for me as well
In order to work more efficiently, I would like to reconsider my awareness of my daily work. I think that each person's work style and awareness are different, but it might be interesting to think about it again
This concludes our interview with Kawa-san, the blog master and infrastructure engineer!
