Hello, I'm Miyoshi, the recruitment manager
June is here in the blink of an eye.
The rainy season means there are many days with bad weather, so it's a hassle to go outside
. But I like this time of year because I find it very calming to fall asleep to the sound of the rain.
Today, glimpse into a typical day for a web development engineerI'd like to give you a
By showcasing the daily work environment and work style of our engineers, we hope to give you a glimpse into their work and serve as a reference for those aspiring to become engineers.
This time, we're introducing the third installment of our engineer's day in the life vlog series! Each installment has received a great response on TikTok, so please check out the TikTok video as well!
Engineer: What kind of person is Mr. Shirai?
Name: Akihiro Shirai
Occupation: Web Development Engineer
Department: Innovation Strategy Department, Web Services Section
Hobbies: Playing musical instruments
This June marks exactly two years since Ms. Shirai joined Beyond. She
joined the company mid-career with no prior experience. Her previous job was in a completely different field, and she learned programming at a school. When asked why she decided to become an engineer, she, "I became interested in engineering because I wanted to use my skills to solve problems and grow as a person, and after experiencing the joy of development, I decided to actually pursue it."said
Ms. Shirai always readily accepts any request I make and responds promptly. She
has a gentle demeanor, is reassuring, and is a very unique person! 👍
Thanks to Shirai-san's personality, the shoot this time was also enjoyable and went smoothly. I'm very grateful
What is the Innovation Strategy Department?
The Innovation Strategy Department, to which Shirai belongs, is responsible for the planning, development, and operation of the company's services, as well as company-wide marketing. This department is made up of two sections: the Web Services Section and the Marketing Section
Please see the blog below for more information on each class!

The flow of a certain day
- Organizing individual tasks during morning meetings
- Midday meetings for the team and the entire team
- Regular project meetings and client meetings
- Work such as coding and design
- Sharing the day's progress during evening meetings
Here's a typical day in my life.
Some days I have a packed schedule of meetings, while other days I can quietly work on my own tasks.
Morning Routine
- Inquiries and email checks
- Organizing tasks within work and tasks for internal projects within the department
Shirai-san: First thing in the morning, I start my day by checking the inquiries and emails I receive from clients and users and responding to each one. I think about how to respond depending on the content, and if necessary, I collaborate with other members, striving to respond politely and smoothly
After that, I review the tasks related to the development of our company's services and organize what I need to work on now. I prioritize the ongoing projects so that I can work efficiently
I also participate in the Device Team (a team that manages devices within the company) and the Organizational Culture Committee (a team that promotes communication between employees), and organizing each of these tasks is essential. I work every day to create a better workplace from both a technical and internal connection perspective!
Morning work
- Team midday meeting
- Maintenance support for inquiries
- Completing carried-over development tasks

Shirai: At lunchtime, I hold a team lunch meeting with the members of the Web Services Department. By sharing the tasks and progress that each of us is responsible for, we can keep track of each other's situations and ensure that the project progresses smoothly as a team. It's a very important time because it also makes it easier to discuss small matters and share information
After the lunch meeting, I continue to respond to inquiries from clients and users, while also working on tasks related to the development and design of our own services. Daily efforts will lead to improved service quality, so I try to proceed carefully with each task
lunch time

For lunch that day, Shirai-san, Wagi, and Miyoshi had fried chicken set meals.
Going out for lunch together, casually chatting, and generally breaking down departmental barriers are some of the charms of our company.
Afternoon work
• Meetings with clients
, coding
, design
, and code review

Shirai-san: After returning from lunch, I had a meeting with the client. By talking directly, I was able to fully understand their requests and problems, so it was a very important time for considering future responses and the direction of development
After the meeting, we start coding work, such as implementing new features and improving existing features. At the same time, we are also working on table design for new services and functions, steadily assembling the system while considering the overall configuration
We also conduct code reviews of the code created by our team members through pull requests. Rather than just checking, we strive to provide clear and thorough feedback, aiming to help improve the skills of the entire team
That's what a typical day in the life of a web development engineer looks like
You may find that your work day is surprisingly varied, with time spent writing code and concentrating, time spent working with your team to solve problems, and time spent meeting with clients. What you do each day changes depending on the progress of the project and your role!
What they all have in commonthey are constantly experimenting and trying new things to create better websites and services.
