[Japan's first] I held an online game company information session
My name is Fujisawa and I am in charge of public relations and recruitment.
"Wouldn't it be fun to hold a company briefing session on an online game?"
I came up with this idea at a meeting one day, so I actually tried it.

Trying out the first "online game company information session" in Japan (or the world?)
- Advantages, disadvantages
- Delivery method
- Interesting points
I have summarized what I learned and felt after trying it out.
overview
- Target: 21 graduates nationwide
- You can listen to company information while moving within the online game.
- You can also take a tour of the company and experience work (?) within the game.
This is a project that fulfills both the desire of ``I want students to have fun while participating'' and ``I want the students to have fun as well.''
Advantages and disadvantages
Holding information sessions online has benefits for both companies and students.
merit
- No transportation costs
- No travel time required
- Students from all over the country can participate
- You don't have to wear a suit
- You can participate more relaxedly than face-to-face.
- fun
The fact that there is no cost to either party is very important.
This should also reduce the mental burden on students.
But it's not all good.
Demerit
- You cannot participate if you do not have an online game.
- I can't get to know the office atmosphere.
- Unable to explore each other's humanity; difficult to catch up in conversation
As with online meetings/interviews, the biggest hurdle is having a conversation.
This may not be a problem if both parties are used to interacting online, but this is not always the case.
In particular, at this online game company information session, the students only communicate via chat, so it tends to become a one-sided conversation with the company side.
Delivery method
Live streaming on YouTube Live so that even people who do not have online games can participate
Our engineers built a server for the online game company information session, and we gave the IP address to the students and asked them to log in. (Cloud is Microsoft Azure)
Questions can be posted at any time in the chat field.
Whether you are participating in-game or only on YouTube Live, you can post your questions in the chat at any time.
For those who participate in the online game, we also have gimmicks unique to the game.
We have also prepared an ``in-house tour'' and ``alert response experience'' that can only be experienced by those who participate in the game.
Interesting points
The skin is unique
Each student participating in the game can freely create their own skin.
Since it was an information session, some people came dressed in suits, while others wore characters that had nothing to do with job hunting.
Even if you can't meet someone face-to-face and have a conversation with them, you can get a sense of what kind of person they are through the way they express their individuality, which is unique to online games.
Completely recreate an office with blocks
In fact, this stage was all created by high school students who attend 8x9 (Hack)
I just gave them a few photos of the Osaka office where we usually work, and they created a stage in no time.

Simulated work experience with a large number of zombie outbreaks
As a result of thinking about whether it would be possible to experience the cloud/server operation monitoring, which is our main business, in-game, we came up with the idea of ``defeating zombies and troubleshooting.''
This is something that can only be done in-game, such as treating a sudden server failure as a zombie and physically punching it to defeat it. *We do not hit people when actually dealing with obstacles.
I hope that you were able to get a taste of the work that infrastructure engineers do on a daily basis: dealing with unexpected situations calmly.
It ends with an explosion
This is something you would never be able to do at a normal company information session, and it would blow up the venue.
I wanted to make the punch line a big one, so I hurriedly prepared an explosive punch line.
When I saw the stage turn into pieces in an instant, I didn't know what to comment on even though I had hoped for an explosive punch line.
In a survey of impressions from participants, they said they were ``surprised,'' and I thought that was true.
In this way, anything is possible for a company information session within an online game.
Finally
The online game company briefing session was a success, but I feel there are still areas for improvement.
I thought that mutual understanding would deepen if the company could communicate more with the participants instead of talking unilaterally.
In recruitment activities for 21 graduates, not only our company, but various other companies are conducting online selection.
Some companies even complete the final interview online.
There are advantages and disadvantages to being online, but personally speaking, I'm still not good at talking to people online.
So my current challenge is to get used to the online environment by completing more tasks.
It may take some time for me to accept this environment, but I would like to gradually adapt and come up with strategies to effectively communicate with students online.
I will be writing a detailed article about the ``Kansai IT Online LLC Information Session'' that we hosted the other day, so please take a look.
So, this is Fujisawa, who is working from home.
