What is the aim of IT companies that implement in-house English training programs?

Hello

suddenly become the person in charge of English training

Beyond an internal English training program , where receive online English lessons during working hours .

English training is held twice a week

This time, we will be talking about "Why is Beyond, an IT company, offering English training?"

I wrote an article about what I thought as an English training instructor

A training officer's thoughts on "Why IT company Beyond provides English training"

To put it simply,

I believe it is our corporate philosophy and achieve our corporate mission

What made me think about "Why do I take English training?"

I was taking English training was when I became the English training officer .

In fact, until I became the English training manager, I had never thought about why my company was providing English training .

The reason is that English training was already an in-house system when I joined the company a year ago .

English training started three years ago .

So until now, I

This company offers English training for people who want to study English

That's all I thought, and I didn't really care what the purpose of the English training was .

However, now you need to know and think about the purpose of your English training .

because

What a great deal to receive free English lessons!!

With this in mind (and a sense of mission because there were so few participants), I, a heavy user of English training,

At the time, there were almost no attendees , so I stood out and was appointed to be in charge of English training.

Therefore, as an English training officer, I employees to participate in English training .

Since we are calling out to you, "Please join our English training!"

I felt that it was necessary to understand the purpose of the English training

We asked the president, "Why did we start English training?"

Why did I even pay money to start English training in the first place ?

When I asked the president about this, the answer I got was even more moving than I expected

for starting English training was " achieve Canada "

(I suspect that in order to open a branch in Canada, they thought, "Let's learn to speak English, which is the official language of Canada!")

Now that we have achieved our goal of opening a branch in Canada ,

It's moving to imagine how united we all were at the time, striving to establish a branch in Canada

However, achieving my goal means that the reason I started the English training has come to an end

is it necessary to continue English training now that things have settled down

I, and other English training staff, believe that there is

[Conclusion] Why take English training?

As I wrote at the beginning, as an English training instructor, I think the reason why Beyond provides English training is

Our company's " corporate philosophy " is to continue creating and supporting together.

We act in line with this idea and our " mission " is to make the world a little "easier."

I think this is to achieve this

The "together" in our corporate philosophy :

This includes not only our customers and partners, .

As mentioned above, we currently have a branch in Canada, and currently have two employees who were hired locally

At this stage, there are no members in the Canadian branch who cannot speak Japanese,

There is someday someone will join the company who will need to communicate in English

When that happens, in order to communicate with the people who are creating together ,

I think it is necessary to be able to communicate in English

So why does Beyond have a branch in Canada?

The purpose of opening the Canadian branch was to "eliminate night shifts due to time differences," but that was not all

because the story is set " making the world a little easier .

In order to make the world a better place, there will be times when we need to use English, the universal language

Beyond to achieve its mission, English proficiency will also be required.

As the person in charge of English training, I believe these are the reasons why our company provides English training

[Bonus] The reason we came to this conclusion was because of the employees' opinions

I had the opportunity to look at the responses to a survey about English training that we had previously administered to all employees

The survey items included the following: (I will briefly introduce the survey results below.)

  • Do you use English at work? (Approximately 90% answered "I think it's a little necessary" or "It's essential")
  • Are you interested in learning English? (Approximately 80% answered "yes")
  • Reasons for being interested in learning English (various reasons, such as wanting to be able to read English documents used at work, wanting to broaden one's life choices, wanting to interact with people from different countries, wanting to maintain the English skills gained through studying abroad, having more foreign colleagues, etc.)
  • What you want from English training (want to learn about foreign cultures, want to start from the beginner level, want an opportunity to speak, want to learn English that will be useful for programming, want to learn business conversation, want to practice reading, etc.)

My first impression when I saw the results was, "There's a lot going on."

Do you use English at work? Are you interested in learning English? Why do you want to learn English? What do you want from English training?

so many different opinions on each , I wondered why all employees should participate in English training

*All employees will be able to participate in the new system starting in June (excluding employees who already have sufficient English proficiency)

At that time, I heard the words "corporate philosophy and mission" that the president mentioned at the English training meeting

thing all participants have is that they work under the same "corporate philosophy and mission"

I realized that was the case

Therefore, in order to achieve the common goal of all Beyond employees, "Continue to create and support together, making the world a little easier,"

I thought that as part of my job, I would be taking English training and learning what was necessary for the company's "philosophy and mission."

I think some people feel embarrassed to speak English in front of others

(Because that's me...)

In order to "create together in the world," I think there will be opportunities to speak English in front of multiple people,

I think it would be good to practice this during English training

( English training is a place where you can make as many mistakes as you like !)

[Bonus 2] An overview of our English training

Currently, we operate under the rule that all people who need to learn English must participate in the English training described above at least once a month

lastly

In this article, we have introduced the purpose of English training, focusing on its philosophy and mission

When working in the engineering or IT industry, being exposed to primary sources of information in English is a great advantage

I hope to publish another article about English training someday

We hope that the contents of this article will be useful to companies and others considering introducing English training
