I'm Haraoka, the representative of Beyond
I'm writing a blog post for the first time in a while.
Looking back, it's been since June 2017, so it's been about four years since my last blog post.
This time, the theme is hiring new graduates. Have you ever wondered why so many companies hire new graduates who aren't yet ready to contribute immediately? The answer is that hiring new graduates offers many advantages for companies . In this article, I'll explain the reasons and benefits of hiring new graduates from the perspective of the CEO of a venture company that has been hiring new graduates for six years . I hope this will be helpful for students looking for jobs and for many working professionals.
New graduates hired so far
Beyond began regularly recruiting new graduates in 2015, so this is our sixth year . Before that, we recruited irregularly, so we started in 2010. The new graduates we have hired so far are as follows:
2010 1 person
2013 1 person
2015 3 people
2016 3 people
2017
1 person 2019
4 people 2020 4 people
2021 5 people
2022
6 people
Why hire new graduates? Benefits of hiring new graduates
As mentioned above, Beyond regularly recruits new graduates, and below, I will explain in detail "why we recruit new graduates" from several perspectives
Able to hire talented personnel
Because students conduct their job search simultaneously, even venture companies can recruit alongside large corporations. While some students may not join due to comparisons, a certain percentage of them are specifically interested in venture companies, creating an opportunity to recruit talented individuals . In fact, the employees who joined this year are exceptionally talented and have already made significant contributions to their teams, including infrastructure operation and construction . Furthermore, unlike mid-career recruitment which is conducted year-round, new graduate recruitment is conducted intensively over a short period , offering the advantage of recruiting a larger number of people in a shorter timeframe.
Develops company culture
New graduates, who haven't been influenced by any other company's culture, are very open-minded. Therefore, new graduates quickly and deeply understand the company's core culture and help to develop it for subsequent new recruits . While many mid-career hires already possess valuable skills, my own experience as an employee has shown me that it's not easy to change the habits acquired at one's first company. I believe that it's the new graduates who take the lead in nurturing our company's culture.
The atmosphere in the office is refreshed
Working with the same people for a long time inevitably creates a sense of stagnation in the workplace. That's why when fresh employees join on April 1st each year, it feels like spring has arrived, and the atmosphere in the office is completely refreshed. Surprisingly, this refreshing atmosphere is highly effective in generating positive feelings among those around you.
Creating an atmosphere where everyone can learn
New graduates join the company while still inexperienced as working professionals, so they need various kinds of training, not just technical skills, but also business-related knowledge. That's why at Beyond, not just a select few employees, but a variety of employees act as "instructors" to nurture new graduates. This creates an atmosphere where all employees work together to "nurture new recruits into competent professionals ," and a positive cycle is created where not only new graduates but also existing members gain opportunities for growth by taking on the role of "instructor." This "positive cycle of in-house training" that arises from the arrival of new graduates significantly strengthens the company as a whole
Since they join the company at the same time, they can receive training at the same time
At Beyond, we provide training periods for both new graduates and mid-career hires as needed. For mid-career employees, training is generally conducted individually due to varying start dates, but for new graduates, the start date and number are fixed, allowing us to plan ahead and conduct more comprehensive training. Furthermore, mutual support and healthy competition among new graduates during the training period also contribute to their accelerated growth
【summary】
As mentioned above, there are many advantages to hiring new graduates, they are essential for the growth of our company. While there are many challenges in recruitment and training, Beyond will continue to hire new graduates, and after they join the company, our employees will work together to provide them with thorough training.
