[🍁News from Toronto] Hair salon edition ✂✂

toronto cityscape

Hello!

I'm Tako, a member of the System Solutions Department who plans to win big and fall in love with the casino.

I've been on a business trip to the Beyond Canada office since the end of January, and I (without permission) took over the Toronto Newsletter from my predecessor.

Actually, it's my first time going abroad, so I'm having a lot of shocks just walking around the city.

This time, on a business trip to Canada, I decided to get a haircut at a local hair salon in Toronto, so I'd like to share my experience with you!

Let's do our best!

*By the way, I can't speak English at all, so the conversations in this blog will be based on general nuances.

Salon introduction

was Ivan Hair Salon , which is about a 3-minute walk from the King Station in downtown Toronto

Exterior of Ivan Hair Salon

Here's what it looks like. It looks like a good old American and is quite stylish.

Inside the Ivan Hair Salon

Here is the inside of the store. This hair salon has a long history.

If you are interested, we also have a homepage, so please take a look.

I went there

Let's go for now! With this feeling in mind, I went there around noon on Monday.

I arrived at the hair salon around 1:40pm and saw two hairdressers behind the glass.

I made up my mind to enter the store and first said hello. The atmosphere was quite friendly and they greeted me with a smile.

As I was greeting people like that, I was asked to sit on the sofa and wait, so I ended up looking at other customers while I was waiting.

When I saw that the other customers had hairstyles that suited them well, I was relieved that it would probably be okay, and then it was finally my turn.

*Before we hung up, I researched how to say it just to be sure.

〇 Below is the conversation from that time.

Hairdresser: “Hi! How do you want it to look?”

Me: “Please give me the most popular hairstyle in Canada.”

*I was curious about what was the most popular, and I thought if it was the most popular, it wouldn't be that weird.

Hairdresser: “Huh? What?”

Me: “Please give me the most popular hairstyle in Canada!”

Hairdresser: “Huh? What?”

Me (I really don't understand at all...but I have no choice but to go with passion!)

Me: “Please give me the most popular hairstyle in Canada!!!”

Hairdresser: “Oh, this is the most popular hairstyle in Canada! Leave it to me!”

Me (I finally got through...Ah, I have to say this!)

Me: “Ah, but I don’t want it to be that short.”

Hairdresser: “I see, leave it to me!”

Me (Huh? Can you tell?)

Me: “Um, please don’t make it shorter.”

She kept smiling the same way and saying the same words, and she never asked me any specific questions, so I tried to remind her, but the hairdresser suddenly took out her hair clippers.

Huh, clippers? Is it still not getting through? The next moment I thought. . . . . !

Bali Bali Bali Bali! !

My head was being shaved off with a loud bang. . . Moreover, it is firm from the root. . .

As good as it felt, my request was not met. . (lol)

The hairdresser is in a good mood and is whirring with her hair clippers. I feel calm, thinking that this is the first time it's been this short since middle school.

I knew that this was going to be a big deal, and that there was nothing I could do about it since the clippers had shaved it off, so I watched the hairdresser do whatever I wanted (lol).

Then, after shaving my head for a while, the hairdresser who was left with a pair of scissors chopped off my remaining bangs, and with a big smile on her face said:

This is OK! It really suits you! !

*This happened about 10 minutes after I started cutting up to this point.

Here is the before and after of that time

↑Me before cutting my hair

↓Me after cutting my hair (I'm trying not to show it, but I have a look of despair on my face)

Me after my hair was cut

What is this...? It's like a junior high school student in the sports club... (´;ω;`)

I couldn't believe that this was so popular, so I decided to ask.

Me: “Is this the best in Canada?”

Hairdresser: “Of course! You look so cool!”

Once again, I was told this with a big smile, and I paid the bill in despair.

The price was about $30 (approximately 3,000 yen in Japanese yen) including tip. Canada is expensive, so it's pretty cheap. (tears of blood)

summary

Summary.

If you are going to a local hair salon in Canada...
1. Don't go until you can properly communicate your intentions to the other person in English
2. Go with the determination that whatever happens
3. I'll do my best even if it's hard

Let's keep these three things in mind. That's impossible! If so, please be quiet and go to a hair salon where there are Japanese people!

As a side note, when I asked the person I work with at the Canadian office, they told me that my current hairstyle is not at all popular in Canada.

What is that?(´;ω;`)(´;ω;`)(´;ω;`)

That's all about getting a haircut at a local hair salon in Toronto!

Everyone please go and try it! ! A new world awaits! !
