[What is Poe? ] Introducing an app that allows you to easily create an AI chatbot on your smartphone

Introduction

Hello!
This is Mikoto from Beyond Co., Ltd.

Recently, I've been struggling with learning new terminology, and I've been finding it increasingly difficult to understand new things.
Today, I 'd like to explain about
Poe, A professor recommended this app to me when I was a student, and it helped me learn English and Unity. Even now, as a working adult, I still make extensive use of it!

(In fact, the previous blog post to introduce the status code error was output by Poe.)

What is Poe?

overview

Simply put, an app that lets you easily create chatbots on your smartphone !
(You can also do this in your browser, though...)

To explain in more detail, you choose one AI that catches your eye from the many available, and then use it as a base to decide on the tone of voice, bot settings, initial greeting, etc

Some people may have a strong negative reaction to the tone of voice used by help bots and the like that you often see on the streets (I was one of them), but rest assured that it is not the monotonous, mechanical Japanese that is

The official explanation can be found here

About the free tier

With the free plan (where you only register an account), there is a limit to the number of times you can use the AI per day!

The limit on the number of times varies depending on the type of AI, and can be checked in the settings for each. Some bots can only be used once a day, so if you're interested, try using them as a trial.
(Don't worry, people like me quickly get bored and end up subscribing before we know it...)

About Premium Registration

Poe Subscription
¥3,000
/month and 1,000,000 points/month
At current rates, you can send up to 50,000 messages per month to Poe Assistant, 3,000 to GPT-4, and 1,000 to Claude-2-100k
Poe has a concept called points, and the number of points consumed varies depending on the type of AI used .
As a guideline, I often use "ChatGPT-4-Turbo," which consumes 500 points per output. I use about 50,000 points per month, and I 've never used up all 1,000,000 points .
Whether it's expensive or not is up to personal taste, but I personally think it's a reasonable price.
Regarding subscriptions, please see Poe subscription FAQ

Let's make a bot!

What to prepare

  1. PC or smartphone
  2. Register as a member of Poe.com (free)

Membership registration itself is free, but if you sign up for a paid plan you can get access to even more AI!

*I would like to point out in advance that I have been using the paid plan since I started, so please understand that I have no experience using the free plan

Basic setup

First, let's create a simple bot.
(I created it on a PC, but the basic operation is the same on a smartphone.)

①Click "Create a Bot" from the menu button

② Select "Prompt Bot"
This time I selected "Prompt Bot" because I am familiar with it, but there are other types so please try them out!

Set up the bot details

① Decide on an image and name.
The "image" here will be the icon image for this bot. This time, we will use a cute illustration output using Poe!
*You can choose any name, but unfortunately, you cannot input Japanese.

This time I chose "TestBotKun"!
② Decide on the bot to use as the base
Here, you can choose one of the many AIs to use as the base.
There are many well-known AIs to choose from, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude! You can also choose the version.
*Some AIs require subscription registration

"GPT-4o-Mini" which is available for free !
(By the way, I personally use "ChatGPT-4-Turbo" which is available for subscription.)

③Enter a prompt.
You can use the prompt to add various settings such as your bot's characteristics,

This is where the fun begins!
This timeTo the extent that the author's tastes are not revealedLet's set it up easily
(Many pioneers have already created unique bots, so if you're interested, take a look at the public bots in the app. Occasionally, someone will publish a prompt.)

④ Enter your first message.
This is a personal and important point.
I mentioned earlier that you can set the tone with the prompt, and you can write an example of that tone here!

This is because this the first thing your AI will say .
If you use polite language in the first message, the effect will be diminished even if you set the prompt as a prompt.

⑤ Set up your bot's profile.
First, you'll see a section for writing your "self-introduction."
This is the space to write about the features of the bot you created when you publish it.
(I've never written anything about it, because I never publish it except to show it off to friends.)

⑥ Set up public access
, etc. There are three settings for "access" here.

  1. Whether you want to make your bot publicly accessible
  2. Whether your bot should appear in recommendations for other related
  3. Whether to include your prompts in the bot's

Needless to say, I have it turned off!!!
But if you want to share your work publicly, please turn it on (;'∀')

⑥ Click Create Bot.
The setup is complete!
You can edit it later , so feel free to just click the Create button!

A little trivia

As an aside, here's a tip for writing good prompts.
They are "You are..." and the word "user." Even though it supports Japanese, normal everyday conversation is difficult for AI.
So, by writing it in the SV syntax, "You are...", which is the same as when translating directly from English , it makes it easier for the AI to read the settings ! (This is just my personal experience...)

And the "user" refers to the person the bot is talking to.
In other words, when the bot talks to you, it recognizes you as a "user .
So, for example, if you write "You are a user of...", you can even set the relationship !
(I use this to create interesting AWS experts.)

Talk to the bot you created!

A little chat

This time, the bot is set up as an engineer, so I'll try some casual conversation

The topic is about the advantages and disadvantages of operating a cloud server and an on-premise server

He explained the questions I asked in Kansai dialect like this!
Of course, you shouldn't take everything he says at face value, but he did explain things in a way that made sense.

This time I used a free bot to output the data, but if you use the paid version, it will use headings to make it easier to read and will summarize the content in a much easier-to-understand way.
(I tried writing a novel with it, and the content, length, and level of development of the Japanese story were different between the free and paid versions. If you're interested, please give it a try.)

This bot doesn't feel cold like other bots, so why not create your favorite bot and use it actively?

Personal study methods

to introduce
my personal using this chatbot The basic process goes like this:

  1. Ask a Question
  2. Check the results (documents, etc.)
  3. If there seems to be no problem with the output results, ask the question again
  4. Repeat steps ① to ③ until you are satisfied
  5. Explain the meaning of the terms you learned in your own words and have them corrected

You can ask questions casually in a dialogue format, and since it's an AI, you can bombard it with questions, or even if you suddenly ask an unrelated question, it will happily output a response.
You can input anything you're unsure about after listening to the explanation by asking a question explaining your own interpretation later !

*Questions about work details are strictly prohibited as they may lead to information leaks. I also use it for personal study purposes, such as understanding concepts

Conclusion

This time, we introduced a fascinating app that allows you to create your own bot based on the latest advanced and amazing AI

I think it's important
not to blindly accept all the information output by the AI Also, if you have a "work-related question" that contains important information, to ask your senior colleagues, not the AI ( Thankfully, all my senior colleagues are happy to answer any questions I have, so I hope to be like them in the future...)

That's all, thank you for reading this far!
