[eSIM] How to check if your device is compatible with eSIM/Dual SIM [Mystery of *#06#]

Introduction

I'm Gaocheng from Beyond Shenzhen, and I'm already missing summer and shorts.

This time, I would like to talk about how to easily check which devices are compatible with eSIM or dual SIM, with the theme being the mystery of *#06#

It feels a bit like a password or something like an urban legend, but that's not the case at all. It's a very useful number, so I hope everyone can make use of it through this article. I think so!

There are also several other articles related to eSIM, so please read them in conjunction with this article.

〇 [eSIM] Smartphones that do not support dual SIM/eSIM are surprisingly common in Japan [Consideration]

〇 [eSIM] Smartphone SIM lock and how to unlock it

What is this number anyway?

First of all, regarding this number, "*#06#" is used to display the "IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number".

you can opening the phone app on your smartphone and entering "#06#"

By the way, IMEI is a globally recognized device management number and is assigned a unique individual number (15-16 digits).

This unique number allows you to know the manufacturer, country of origin, serial number, etc. of the device. For example, when unlocking the SIM lock, you can tell your device's IMEI number to your carrier. .

The carrier will check the user's device using the IMEI number and proceed with the SIM unlocking process as an official procedure.

How to check if eSIM/Dual SIM is supported

This is the main topic, and I will explain it using actual screenshots.

Open the phone app on your device and enter *#06#

iPhone sample screen

Android sample screen

Explanation of each information

① EID

This is called the Embedded Identity Document and contains information about your eSIM.

② IMEI

Information regarding the IMEI that was created earlier is output.

The information in this section is for the first SIM card slot.

There is no problem as long as you provide the first information when unlocking the SIM.

③ IMEI 2

Similarly, information regarding IMEI is output.

The information in this section is for the second SIM card slot.

What can be determined from this information

No matter which iPhone or Android you use, a screen similar to the one above will be output, but if you organize the contents, you can determine the device information as shown below.

① "EID, which is the eSIM identifier, is displayed" → There is a high possibility that eSIM can be used on your device.

③ "Second IMEI information is displayed" → Since two SIM slots are recognized, there is a high possibility that dual SIM can be used

summary

What do you think?

It might have been a little confusing because there were a lot of horizontal letters and alphabets, but I'll summarize the contents again below.

  1. Open the Phone app on your device and type *#06#
  2. If the EID is displayed on the screen
  3. If IMEI 2 is displayed on the screen

As I mentioned at the beginning, you can of course check this information manually from the settings screen on any OS.

However, for me personally, entering this number and having it displayed is the easiest and easiest way to understand, and you can check it in the same way no matter what smartphone OS you use.

It's very convenient, and especially on Android, the settings screen itself varies depending on the model, so it's a simple confirmation method compared to that.

However, it is important to note that the information confirmed using the above steps is for reference only.

In order to more accurately check the information on your device, be sure to check with your smartphone vendor (manufacturer or carrier) before purchasing an eSIM or using the dual SIM feature!
