[#Undercover Report] GCPUG starts in Kyoto! │What is the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) user group that is gaining attention?

Hello! And he's nice to meet you.
This is Kida from the Content Business Department.

I am mainly in charge of operating our company's content and supporting our customers, but from this spring I will also be involved in marketing, and I will also be participating in the activities of the exhibitions and study sessions held by Beyond. Masu(^^)/

This time, this is an in-depth report on [GCPUG Kyoto], which I recently participated in.

GCPUG ?

GCPUG that aims to popularize Google Cloud Platform (GCP), making it better and promoting it .

Anyone who sympathizes with the purpose of GCPUG is welcome to participate, from beginners to advanced users. Let's make Google Cloud Platform (GCP) more exciting together!

GCPUG finally launched in Kyoto!

GCPUG currently active in the Kansai region , but the scope of its activities has finally expanded to Kyoto, and [GCPUG Kyoto] was finally held on April 7th! I participated as a helper along with Ohara, who is in charge of Beyond's pre-sales engineer, but the only thing I was able to do was take some photos and adjust the sound...(;∀;)

Participants arrived at the venue one after another even before the start time, demonstrating the level of attention GCPUG received.

▲The event was held at [QOO Kiyamachi] located on the 1st floor of Nagayoshi Kiyamachi Building, 190 Zaimokucho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City.
There are plenty of seats, and the atmosphere is like a bar, so it's not a formal atmosphere even for study sessions, making it easy for first-timers to participate!

The speed of application for CONNPASS recruitment shows the level of attention!

people to participate in GCPUG CONNPASS , but as soon as the recruitment details were made public, the number of participants filled up at an astonishing speed. However, we have received over 90 applications and are on a waiting list for cancellations!

Those who slipped into the slot due to the cancellation shouted out their joy on Twitter.

If you check the tweets with the hashtag "#GCPUG", you can see that the excitement has been high even before participating. In addition, the speakers and those who gave talks in the LT slot have made their materials available on Twitter, so those who were unable to attend can also see what they said. .

The speakers are gorgeous!

Above all, the people who served as speakers were wonderful. Organizers from other regions also rushed in, making the launch in Kyoto a great success.

Here are the speakers at GCPUG Kyoto↓

■Overview of GCPUG/GCP Mercari/Souzo sinmetal
■Machine Learning Google/Mr. Sato
■Big Query (big data analysis) Groovenauts/Mr. Nakamura
■GKE+Kubernetes (containers) Beyond/Ohara
■Google Datalab and TensorFlow
of GPU utilization (deep learning) Nissen / MATSUDA
■LT frame: Rancher2.0 and GKE cyberblack28

The materials prepared by the speakers were very easy to understand, and I think it was a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

isn't it difficult to use GCPUG without a little knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

No, that doesn't seem to be the case.
In fact, I was actually very nervous about participating this time (even though I wasn't a speaker).

However, both the management members and the participants welcomed us with a warm welcome, and we had a very fulfilling time from beginning to end.

▲Although everyone looked serious, they were all really easy to talk to.
The study sessions have a very relaxed atmosphere, with occasional jokes.

The recruitment content at CONNPASS is also like this

■ This is for people who fall into these categories!

★ I want to get excited about GCPUG.
★ I want to start using GCP.
★ I'm involved in development using the cloud, but I've never used GCP.
★ You can touch GCP for a little while.
★ Beginner to intermediate level students who want to study GCP a little more.
★ I want to find fellow engineers and fellow engineers who use GCP services.
★ Even beginners want a place where they can give presentations in speaker sessions and Lightning Talks.
★ Those who simply like Google's services. ...etc.

Participants will receive a sticker as a bonus!

▲GCP and GCPUG stickers that all participants will receive (*There may be times when stickers are not available.)

It's no exaggeration to say that I really wanted these GCP and GCPUG stickers! ! I finally got it!

No, this is not a good idea, but if you are thinking of participating in the future, please look forward to getting stickers.

Participants can also participate in social gatherings if they wish, further deepening their friendships.

Although we exchanged greetings, there was no progress from there, and it was difficult to join the group... It seems there is no need to worry about that. Not only the speakers but also the participants can participate in the social gathering, so you can feel free to ask any questions you may not have been able to ask during the study session, and deepen your understanding and friendship.

↓This is what the social gathering looks like.
This time we had a social gathering at [Pub House ROARS]!

▲The speakers and GCPUG organizers from other regions also participated.

▲Everyone is having a fun conversation while drinking alcohol♪

Summary: What I thought after participating

Even though I didn't have any specialized knowledge and was a little nervous, everyone was able to provide detailed explanations and it was a great user group where I was able to listen to their valuable stories.

Let's liven up GCPUG without feeling like it's being excited in the inner circle! Many people are aware of this, so
it's easy to get used to it without feeling like you're away.

From easy stories for beginners to slightly difficult stories for intermediate users. As you mentioned, the materials were very easy to understand, so I got more and more interested and want to participate next time! This is a meeting that makes you think.

If you are thinking about participating, it seems that the next event will be in Kobe, so why not try it out?
You can apply for GCPUG Kobe here

I would definitely like to participate again ('◇')ゞ
