[CPU] How to calculate the specs of an Oracle Cloud instance [Core license]
This is Ohara from the technical sales department.
This article
that explains how to calculate instance specifications and instance usage fees
for "Oracle Cloud" compares the specifications and usage fees with Amazon Web Service (AWS).
*This time we will explain using "IaaS" as an example.
Please refer to the blog below for the features of Oracle Cloud
[Summary] Overview and features of Oracle Cloud [Key points]
First, compare the CPU units of “Amazon Web Service” and “Oracle Cloud”
The CPU unit of Oracle Cloud "OCPU" , and
even in the cloud, the service is provided as "physical CPU".
For example, if there is one physical CPU, it will be calculated as "1 OCPU", and if there are two physical CPUs, it will be calculated as "2 OCPU".
``1'' OCPU (physical CPU) in Oracle Cloud
with vCPU (virtual CPU) in Amazon Web Service (AWS),
it is equivalent to ``2 times'' per 1 vCPU in AWS.
■ Calculation example:
・Oracle Cloud: 1core (1 OCPU) = AWS: vCPU 2core
・Oracle Cloud: 2core (2 OCPU) = AWS: vCPU 4core
・Oracle Cloud: 4core (4 OCPU) = AWS: vCPU 8core
Even in the cloud, it is calculated using the “core license” method.

================== ===
For example, if you assume that in a cloud environment, ``4 core specs are required per instance,''
in AWS, the calculation will be based on the specs and performance of ``vCPU, ECU, and core.''
In line with this requirement of "4 core specifications per instance",
it is necessary to allocate and calculate a "2 core" core license in Oracle Cloud.
■ Calculation example:
- AWS: Number of Cores required for VM instance "EC2": vCPU: 4core
- Oracle Cloud: Number of Cores required for VM instance "Virtual Machine": 2core (2 OCPU)
For example, using the VM instance "VM.Standard2.1"
listed on Oracle Cloud page the calculation formula for "2 core licenses" is as follows.
■ Oracle Cloud (VM instance) calculation example (estimate):
・VM.Standard2.1 (¥7.656 / 1H) × 744H × 2core = ¥11392.128 / 1 instance fee (monthly)
Compare specifications and prices
let's roughly calculate the specs and usage
for both AWS and Oracle Cloud based on the following requirements for implementing a cloud environment
=====================
■ We are considering migrating our infrastructure from an on-premises environment (physical server) to a cloud environment.
■ Requires an infrastructure environment that can withstand mission-critical workloads.
■ Minimum required instance specs per device
・CPU: 4core
・MEM: 8GB
・HDD (Storage): 1TB
・Data transfer amount (Out): 1TB or more
・OS: Windows Server
*In the Oracle Cloud cloud environment,
"Core license" calculations are also applied to "Windows Server OS".
=====================
If you calculate the specifications and usage fees based on these requirements,
the results will be as shown in the table below.
*Machine startup time/month: 744H
*AWS: Tokyo region
*AWS: 110 yen/USD Japanese yen conversion
