[China] Life in Shenzhen Vol.1 [Residing]

From February 2024, Beyond Technology Shenzhen Co., Ltd. , where he provides server and infrastructure-related IT services, primarily to Japanese companies in China.

I can't even remember when in my life I first started thinking about this, but my dream of working overseas come true since I was a child, and I'm feeling a little elated now that I've been stationed in Shenzhen.I'd like to write about what I'm feeling now, dividing it into ``things that make me happy'' and ``things that trouble me.''

Living in Shenzhen: The Good Things

The thing I'm most happy about is the extensive food delivery options

I myself am already a heavy user, and at one point the first thing I did when I woke up in the morning was to order breakfast on Meituan

This was probably just a reaction to my getting too excited, and I'm not like that anymore, but I'm still amazed at how easy it is to use and how cheap it is

The second is a lifestyle system where "all you need is a smartphone and you're basically OK."

As many of you may know, QR code payments are the norm in China, and everyday shopping, payments for utilities, and even subway fares can all be done on your smartphone

Conversely, for people who cannot pay with their smartphones, this advantage turns into a disadvantage, and they end up being unable to do anything. However, once they get over that hurdle, the amount of luggage they have to carry is significantly reduced, and personally I have become addicted to the convenience of being able to go out almost empty-handed

Living in Shenzhen: Difficulties

First of all, there's the toilet

Of course, Western-style toilets exist, but they are rare and are far more common than not

Especially in shopping malls, I often head to the toilet with a faint hope, only to find that there are only Japanese-style toilets, and as a weakling with no tolerance for Japanese-style toilets, I have been disappointed many times

It will probably take me a while to get used to when I first went to a toilet in Shenzhen, due to the simplicity of the toilet bowl

The second is an electric bicycle speeding down the sidewalk

They are nothing but a threat to pedestrians, and there have been countless instances of people nearly being hit by them

※ I finally got run over recently

Also, they will come at you from quite a distance, honking their horns, so if you are walking while wearing earphones, it will be difficult to notice them, which can be very dangerous

There is a truly diverse range of bikes, from those with a cargo bed on the back to ones with never-before-seen modifications that allow them to carry three people, and the sight of them dashing through the city without helmets gives off an aura of strength and ferocity

summary

What did you think?

Although I have tried to write this article in a slightly comical way, when you actually live abroad, there are many things that are different from the Japan you are used to, and at first you often find yourself feeling uncharacteristically sentimental, such as experiencing sadness or difficulties

However, despite what I say, I am enjoying my first time living abroad, and to be honest, I am excited about the many things that will happen in the future!

This time it ended up being just my impressions, but I hope to gradually update the blog with non-technical topics as well, so I hope you'll look forward to it!!
